  On some shots just off the green I’ll hit a pitch, say from 15-20 yards, and I’ll time it perfectly, (the hit indicters “Excellent”) and the ball will go 6 feet. I understand that you should be penalized for being in the rough, but this does not represent golf accurately. Very few shots are missed that poorly …especially if you hit it flush, I had this happen twice on one hole …. Bad design!

   Granted, the physics are atrocious when it comes to the short game here. However, try reading the "Chip and Pitch Tips" on the right side of this page to understand the "physics" at WGT and it should help your game. GL

  I dunno....to me it's just another part of the game that is too realistic. The worst part of my actual game is easily my chipping, and I have been known to fluff or completely muff a chip shot here and there. In fact....it happens at least once per nine for me...I'll feel like I swung my club perfectonly only to find that the ball doesn't make it to the green. Heck...on many of those shots, another six inches of distance in the air would have gotten the shot I desired.

  I couldn't agree with this more, and have been very disappointed at how this is programmed, and it appears on almost every round. While there should be a bit more challenge and a bit less length, etc, when hitting from the rough, it is so inconsistent that it makes the yardages that are listed (as per the lie) as completely worthless. If the lie renders your wedge 40yds max as opposed to the normal 75 yds, for example, then this is already taking the lie into account, and the thing should go 40 yds if hit max and square. And accordingly, it should go 20 yds if you hit it 50% and square. It SHOULD also allow for less spin control, but this doesnt seem very realistic, as I have yet to see any spin actually have an effect on a ball once it hits the green.

  What you have now, unfortunately, is a wedge (or whatever club) that is adjusted for yardage according to the lie, but that does not react accordingly. It is all to common to have a wedge show a max of 30 yds based on the lie, and you hit it 50% expecting something close to 15 yds, and end up with a 5-6 yard chunker into the deeper rough. I don't mind having a bad round, but it sure would be a lot easier to swallow if it was from something that I was doing wrong.

  Club yardages are not adjusted based on your lie in this game. The only time the yardage of a club is adjusted is when you change the shot. Trying to pitch out of rough with less than 75% power is going to produce a realistic shot-a duff. If the first bounce isn't on fringe or green the ball will definitely stop dead. You can't get out of rough softly, with touch. You need to blast it out, so-to-speak. The rough is going to grab your club and eat up most of the power, just like in real golf, so you want to take as full a swing as you can. Adjust the yardage by changing the club. You still need to swing 75% or better and land on fringe or green.

  The % lie you see in the rough is an indicator of how deep the ball is lying. Club appropriately and take a good swing.

  Just to clarify and simplify this excellent post....

  Lie is not taking into consideration on the club yardages.  The type of shot is the only consideration.  It is up to the player to account for all other aspects of the shot....lie, wind, green countour, green speed, etc.

  The art of the mastered chip shot is as good as a putt.  The most important thing you need to remember, though, is that the ball must land on the putting surface.

  If I only had a nickel for every time I found myself in the deep rough next to the green with my swing going against the grain of the grass.  It's awefully tough to get a club through that.  You sure don't want to hit it softly, that's for sure.

  I will say the best two faqs, in the faq section to the right, are putting tips and pitch and chip tips. These two guides are written by members of this website. They have been playing this game longer than most, and score much better than most.  I suggest reading them, playing a few rounds trying the tips....repeat....repeat....repeat.....
