Running a WGT country club and running a for-profit business
have at least one goal in common; being successful. I have belonged to several
WGT country clubs over the past eight years that I consider successful, some
large and complex, others small and simple. I even threw my hat into the club owner’s
ring a few times, failing all but once and even that was questionable. My one “success” was when my club had no requirements
or expectations. It also had no members. I figured out that if I lowered my
standards enough, the chances of failing decreased until “success” was achieved,
but I also learned that where there is little or no risk, there is little or no
life, enjoyment, fun. I do enjoy just playing rounds with friends for the sheer
pleasure of playing but there needs to be some competition going on or I get bored.
Some single player stuff is ok but it’s the multi-player competitions that get
my blood moving and keep me coming back.
