I've played a long time and fairly easily calculated the distance any given shot would travel across a flat surface with little wind (1-3 mph) with multiple levels of clubs using the basic WGT ball (0.0).  But recently I tried a Titleist ball rated 5.6.  I used the same method to determine the standard shot distances but the shots with the 5.6 ball during normal rounds are incredibly inconsistent during regular rounds.  Some are perfect but many are too long or too short and I have no idea why.

I'd love to know how to determine the distances using the 5.6 ball.  Is it a fixed formula or does it vary and what variables other than the club, wind and elevation affects the distance?  Does the amount of spin you put on a shot affect the distance?  If so can it affect it by 10 to 15 yds?  HELP!  I want to use the 5.0 & 5.6 balls but so far, I can't figure it out.

Simply put, you'll need to map your chosen ball and clubs. I assume you're already familiar with the concept of mapping at your level.

Have to remember, when mapping club/ball distances, most likely you are defaulted to apparel on. Therefore, your distances will be different, depending on apparel.

I see you play tournaments and, as such, play rounds with apparel "off".  Your distances will be different in your tournament rounds then regular rounds (depending on what apparel you use when apparel is on during regular rounds).

The best way to map clubs, without the apparel enhancements is either to remove all enhanced apparel, or create a tournament in your club using Kiawah, no wind, and play hole one over and over again, using each club.

I would add that the extra spin on the 5.6 balls can significantly impact distances with any wind.

besides what they said make sure you aren't accidentally changing your club with the scroll wheel right before the shot. I have made that mistake before. A couple of times I caught it just before I clicked to take the shot and saw that I had changed from my driver to my 64 degree wedge,
