This is simply my opinion but I use the flop shot 90% of the time. I generally use allot of back spin and I aim about 3 squares left of the pin. To practice your short game i suggest this:
Go to your favorite course in practice mode. Intentionally hit your ball into the rough, the fringe or a trap. Pop it as close to the hole as you can. Then, equip your longest put, pop it back into the bad stuff, rinse and repeat. Practice makes perfect and doing this will help you out big time.
