The Forums is not the best way to communicate directly with friends. Try going to their Profile page and click the SEND MESSAGE button. This will send a personal message directly to them and it will send the message to their e-mail address. Another thing you can do is post messages directly to their Wall...these messages will also go to their e-mail address...but everyone else visiting their Profile page can see it as well.
