I hit legend a week or two ago and since then I've been struggling, but not for the reasons you might assume. Here's my question.

Obviously the added distance and the almost without question 3i approaches are kicking my ass to some degree, and I expected that, but it seems like deviation has also spiked since then. Am I hallucinating?

Light winds seem to have a much greater effect. Mishits that were once forgiven are now wildly off line. Actual deviation, where a dinged shot travels left against a left to right wind or vice versa, also seems to be happening with much greater frequency.

Please understand that I'm not talking about long irons only, this seems to be happening throughout my bag. Nor am I talking about after the ball lands, just the ball flight.

So I guess my question is; does deviation increase at the Legend tier?

I understand that it's a challenge from the back tees, but this seems like it's more than that.

I can't say I noticed much change, but can I just say that you did damned well to make Legend with the clubs that you have.

I think answer is no deviation does not increase in the legend teir, but the affects of it does.

For example, lets take two shots with the same amount of deviation. The first shot is 100 yards and it lands 2 yards off where you thought it would. Now with the second which is 200 yards (double the distance) the ball would land 4 yards off where you thought.

Double the distance double the AFFECT of deviation, but the deviation was the same.

Also because the ball is in the air longer a given wind will have more affect.

    Hope that makes sense.

Congrats on making legend, you will become a better player than you could from the TM tees.

I'm afraid it's like you say. Not only the length of holes increases after making legend. EVERYTHING changes, or so it feels. I made Legend the Stupid way; playing 30's on STA till i dropped dead and my avg. dropped. The shock of the Big Boy tee's was enormous: 3 iron approaches, increased wind (influence) and, strangely, different putting...I mean identical puts, so not from further away caused by more diff. approaches.

Apart from the longer tee's all this might just be in the head really. You'll get used to it soon enough (or throw the compu out the window trying).

Dinged shot's deviating AGAINST the wind (and not seldom dissapearing OOB, in the water or other WGT horrors) is something i fear is not restricted to the Legend tier, and infuriates me. Any critical comment about this (on the Fora) is answered with comments along the lines of:

    • Stop whining and learn to play...
    • This is a Béta game. Read the T&C's.

In my view the last is the ultimate stoolpigeon and gives (if you choose to believe) WGT a card blanche (As we did when agreeing to the T&C's). 4 years of Béta release should suffice to get rid of bug's.

Congrat's on making it to the Legend tier. Have fun and hit'm straight!!(And hope they stay straight) :-))

Chris is right, especially with the clubs you have now.  Get some better clubs and your long irons will deviate considerably less.

I need to get some new irons when I level up to 90, R11 probably idk. I know the irons i have now are not long enough.

Think about it in terms of the damage done by a mishit. It's more at the Legend level like the margin of error is smaller.

    Chris,

I understand your point and I don't disagree. Hitting long irons inaccurately will spread the results further and wider than an equal amount of inaccuracy with short irons. I get that part fine.

But let's take a hypothetical situation.

140 yards out with a 9 mph left to right wind (level green w/ no tail or headwind). As a TM, this is basically a solid 8i with no spin. I know it's going to fly about 137 and roll out a couple yards. I also know that with a 9 mph crosswind and a centerball hit, I have to aim between 2 and 3 yards left.

If I ding the shot, I know I'll be within a yard of the hole, more or less.

As a legend, under the exact same circumstances, (assuming I've dinged the shot) I'm not getting the same 137 yard ball flight - sometimes it's long, sometimes short - and I've grossly misjudged the effect of the wind (either more or less - it varies).

My assessment of the shot hasn't changed beyond allowing for a little more roll on the faster greens, but the results seem to be wild.

This is all in my head, right? I'm over thinking the adjustment from TM to Legend and now I'm seeing monsters and gremlins where none exist, right?

I don't know. I hope it's all in my head because I used to think I was pretty accurate at this game and now I'm questioning that.

    Bollox,

Agreed. New clubs are on the agenda, but I want to re-learn the courses before trying to learn new clubs.

Also, I would get the G20s, but five levels from now I'm eligible for the Burner 2.0s, so I'll upgrade then.

Buy yourself some patience, some shots don't make sense. 240 yarder(3i) with slight 15 mph tailwind can go 220. R11 driver with  19 mph tailwind can go 272(see replay in my blog post today). 150 yarder against 12 mph headwind  can land at 153 but next time it is short. All that you have to accept it. Swallow and prepare for the next shot. This game takes skills and luck and the percentage of each varies when that thing called deviations are applied. Breathe in, exhale.. and try again.
