I have found the price of quality balls such as Nike way too high given the utilisation

    factor.

Once used it is a step back to use anything else

In my case the nett effect is to make the game prohibitively expensive

resulting in my becoming an occasional rather than an avid and frequent player

    (check my stats)

You need to reduce the cost or increase the utilisation.

I totally agree.  That is why I am playing the WGT Tour SD

ball instead of an expensive one.

There is a wide choice of balls available. If you can't afford the expensive ones then use a cheaper alternative. Simple.

    Affordability is not my issue

As I have already stated once one uses the expensive ones

it is difficult to use lesser ones.

    It is a value issue

bblackh1 is right about the Tour SD, if you can manage the meter being full speed they're brilliant value.

Until last week I used Nikes for every round I played but have now gone back to Callaway Legend Z, they're 2/3 the price and play 95% as well.  For most holes there's no difference.  There are a few holes where the Nikes have the edge, BPB #5 for instance, but the slight gain in playability doesn't justify the extra cost in my opinion.
