2nd shot, landed on the fairway, pop up message 'ball taken out of play' WTF!!!
Any ideas as to why this happens would be great.

if you are using a ball that is not the "starter" ball then it has a "shelf life" after you use up its "life" then it is automatically taken out of play and replaced with the same type if you have any left in your bag> if not then you get the starter ball.
Your ball was used up. Little box lower right corner on screen shows life(hits)left.

I was using Callaway Tour i(s) balls, but question answered now, will keep an eye on the hit meter each time I play as I hate the starter balls.
