St Andrews 12th March, third hole. Hitting R9 8.5 driver with 21 mph wind behind, the ball went through the green and trickled into the back bunker registering exactly 400 yards - gutted didn't count on stats!  Strange thing is that even with 30+ mph winds behind and perfect strikes I cant get within 40 yards of this.  Strange?

Sounds like you had all the stars align for that one shot.  You probably got a severe kick forward off of a downslope.   That can rocket the ball forward pretty quickly and when combined with the hard earth of St. Andrews it can go on forever.  You'll have to find that hill one more time and get that same forward kick again.

    Good Luck =)

I played with a guy who had a 381 drive on #5 I think it was at St Andrews.  Ended up in the fairway so he got credit for it.  Hit on a downslope, the wind was behind but not that heavy, it rolled about 100 yards.

Unbelievable. I always knew this would be the hole to do it on.

Now why would I want to make it up?  Got a 386 yard drive logged and there is no doubt that with the intoduction of windy St Andrews more 400 yard (or more) drives will come.  Maybe not from me but who knows?

    Regards Mike
