I've had a few times when I've played a shot with a 100yd club and the distance I needed to go was less.  For example, I played a 100yd club to go 60 yds (eased back on the meter to 60%), dinged it, and it ended up landing 15-20 yards short.  Is there something I'm doing wrong?

    Thanks!

club power is NOT LINEAR 50% power with a 100yrd club WILL NOT go 50 yards.

after you play for a while you'll get it!

Just give 15% more than you would when you dont play the club full speed. The further away you are from full speed the more distance you will loose. Takes a bit of time to get used to yes :)

As noted most clubs are not linear in distance vs % of swing used. With a few short game exceptions you should never use less than 70% off a full swing. If you need less, take a more lofted club or ... change your shot type, from 'Full' to 'Punch' or 'Pitch' or Flop shots.

Don't use 'Chip' shots unless you're nearly on green.

Do yourself a favor: get a notebook and pencil, and keep it handy when you're learning this game. Your 45yd result with 60% swing is data to remember - even if it wasn't what you wanted. You need to know how all your clubs behave, with both changes in swing % AND changes in spin!

...and then there are the 12 yds shots from green bunkers with 20% to 40 % sand.

    I set up a punch w/ 50 yds wedge, 41 yds nominal.

My experience is not to shoot below 50%, sometimes 45%, to get the ball over the ridge, still landing around the pin.

In "flat" situations, a pitch may be successful, too.
