I may have missed this in the many pages of discussion, but for the sake of the DOUBLE EAGLE CLUB, what is considered a double eagle.  I conside an ace on any hole par 3/4/5 as an ace.  I don't consider an ace on a par 4 as a double eagle.  I only consider a made second shot on a par 5 as a double eagle.  I have none of the above on WGT but was just wondering what the definition is.

**** Saw the edited first post and that an ace on a par four also counted as a double eagle so my question is answered.  I don't agree with this but not for me to choose.  My view of an ace is that it is a one shot score, an double eagle takes 2 incredible shots to be achieved and thus is much more rare than an ace.  I would say a double eagle on a 560 yard par five is much more difficult than an ace on say #9 at St Andrews which requires one shot of 300 yards.

A double eagle is, according to the Rules of Golf, 3 under par on any given hole. So, a HIO on a par 4 is INDEED a Double Eagle - and an ace on a par 5, although near to impossible, is not a Double Eagle/Albatross - it's a "Triple" Eagle ou Condor since it is 4 under par.

While I agree that 3 under par is three under par, I don't see in the rules of golf anywhere that it defines a double eagle as three under par.

Welcome to our two new members, steveox of the U.S. of A. and superemix of Italy, repectively n. 52 and 53 of our Club. The former holed a 317 yard tee shot on St. Andrew#10, the latter a spectacular 297 yard tee shot on ST.Andrews#12, the first ever. A brilliant example of links golf.

The board is updated and trophies are on the way.

I have submitted the question of the Ace/Albatross to the R & A, a Committee is being formed to provide an answer, I will keep you posted

It will be interesting to hear what they say.  I can find nothing in the rules of golf that define a double eagle.

While either are great accomplishments, I stand by my belief that an ace is not as difficult as a true double eagle because an ace requires one good shot while a double eagle on a par 5 require two.  I have seen dozens of aces on par 3 holes and I have seen 5 aces on par four holes, I have only seen one double eagle on a par 5 and that was actually standing on the tee box next to the green where the double was made, I still haven't been in a group where a player made one.

Not meaning to diminish the meaning of either.  I have four aces in real golf, all on par 3's and back when I was younger came very close to an ace on a par four, short 285 yard hole and I have a number of eagles on par 5's that were close to going in for a double eagle.  Great discussion though, I hope to join the WGT club one day soon.

Just scored my first ever Double Eagle on the 2nd Hole of Kiawah Island in a Ready-Go tourney ! whoo hoo !

It was the 2nd shot in to the green from 234y and I choked down on the TaylorMade R11 3 wood a little since there was little wind (3 mph @ 2 o'clock).  The ball sailed straight for the pin and landed about 7y below the hole then slam dunk in to the hole on the 2nd bounce !  It's easily the best holed-in shot I ever had and gave me a hell of a shock, although I must say it was an awesome sight ! :-)

It is with great pleasure that on behalf of all of us I welcome as Permanent Member n. 54 of our club the one and only  Coolswing of Australia. Besides being probably one of the Big Five as a player, Vic is one of the most active members here on WGT, main sponsor and organizer of the WGA tour, a true gentleman and a good friend to many of us. We are therefore doubly honoured to have him on board, thanks to a 234' 3w on KW#2 on the 9th of April.

Well done Vic, board is updated and trophy on the way
