I just carded a 98 on virtual US Open Qualifier at Olympic Club. I just turned tour pro and my putting has gone to pieces (not that it was too good anyway).

I know practice is the thing, but wondered if there were any tips I might be missing. My reading of short putts is bad to say the least. Most of my missed putts were from 6ft or less...

I've read various tips including Golds on grids, lines etc.....but there must be a better way to read greens than the way I am reading them. Long putting not too bad..... but short putts.....urgh!  I've practised  6 hours today and no further forward really. Any advice will be welcome please.

My thanks in advance as always............Bob

In the qualifying you are playing from legend tees which makes it harder to get close to the pin from the longer approaches.

If you're missing too many short putts, chances are you aren't hitting the part hard enough. From inside 3.5 ft, Ill  wont take the pointer out of the cup, but will manytimes double the necessary power and ram it in.

I suggest learning to hit early or late, to fool the break. On short putts, you can get away with murder. Trying to hit the perfect putt is suicide.

You are also playing Tournament speed greens the fastest speed on WGT, as a TP you are probably just getting used to Very Fast speed greens.

Not to argue, but it seemed the green's are running slower than Tournament speed, more like standard.  I bagged my Rossa and broke out the Spider, and shaved 9 strokes of my game.

Championship speed is the fastest on WGT.
