Agreed, Rosey!
Nat's argument of equal rights would fit into politics - in business it's futile.
The marketing effort goes into the direction of best outcome, everything else is a waste.
And, talking about the Lexus Avatar, they chose a white male avatar which may be the most effective choice:
- males are in majority in computers, internet, gaming,
- males are presumably more interested in cars than females(?),
- there is a chance that white males are the majority of Lexus buyers(???).
If these assumptions would be true (which I don't know), the existing avatar might serve for 80% of the market, each of the other three ones (don't forget the coloured female for equality's sake) might in average serve only 7 %.
Imagine you are responsible for a budget, take a pencil and ask yourself if you'd sign for 400% of the costs justified by a 25% plus of market coverage.
Edit:
Of course it has to do with business, Nat!
They want us to show off that logo on the cap, infiltrating it into our heads combined with nice memories of a good leisure time at WGT.
Then we go and buy a car - payback time!
