i have never been a fan of the usga.....from playing experience in publinks qualifiers.....my opinion is the courses are set up with wayyyyyyy too much dificulty

if you look at the names on the winners list of the us open........many of the winners are no name, or semi no name players (sure...when tiger was at his prime he won everything.]

There is nothing worse when an unexpected semi appears from nowhere.Tiger used to have to cope with them all the time allegedly.

There is a reason its not called the US Closed, today's so called no names are tomorrows stars. But why should anyone want the same 3 guys to win every week.

.. Best player won and he's somewhat of a breathe of fresh air, good looking chap like myself too.. ..  he played well down here in the Presidents Cup n you could feel he has a presence about him.. .. ..

.. I'm not one to chant USA USA.. .. but that said I'm glad he won, I see him as real potential to make top 5 n rattle the cages of the top spot........

So you're saying that the course is too hard for the best players, therefore the players that aren't as good win?????

The "no-name" you are referring to, Webb Simpson, was ranked 10th in the world at the end of 2011. He was 14th on the world rankings last week. There is a big difference between being a famous household name and a proven talent. Simpson was a proven talent before the tournament even started.

Plus, who doesn't like a Cinderella story, not that Simpson was? How close did that "no-name" 17 year old high school senior come to unbelievable glory? He was in it at the start of Sunday's round. Can you imagine what Monday back at school was like for him?  :-)

    lol...a semi no name.

this guy's just beaten the best golfing opposition in the world.

ok....prior to the open...many folks might not have heard of him (even though he's played in 64 pga events)....but they sure as hell know his name now.

give the guy some credit huh?

To the OP...Did you watch any golf in 2011..?   Webb Simpson had 2 wins, 12 top ten finishes, and 3 times he came in 2nd place (one of those was a playoff loss to bubba)..

He also won over 6 million bucks last year, so I'd hardly call him a no-name...
