We first started that "restricted" Tier tournament idea about a month ago at our CC, restricted to Amateurs, Pros and Tour Pros, this was in the title of the tournament as well as the description (not that anyone seems to read those). Ofc, a Master entered and won it.
I thought this was unfair, I mean, it stated the limit in the title of the tournament, as I stated above, so I implemented a rule that if any CC member enters a tourney that is tier-restricted, that they will be "suspended" from entering CC tournaments for a period (1 month), possibly reducing this on appeal. Second tournament, and AGAIN a Master (diff. one this time) entered, and subsequently won it. So I issued him with a suspension notice (New rule was posted in CC forum before this, so no excuse their), which he appealed, and I reduced his "suspension" to 2 weeks. He has so far been adhering to this, I am glad to say.
Yet another Master that did this in yet another tournament, and I issued him with the same warning and suspension notice, he quit the CC in a huff. Whatever, I am not forcing anyone to stay a member if they don't want to. BTW, ignoring said suspension, would result in revocation of CC membership.
I honestly don't think this is too harsh, and the idea is that it makes people pay attention to the tournament title, and hopefully read the tournament descriptions as well, to be sure!
