Hello everyone and welcome to the first of many updates on the action here on the WGF Tour. Brought to you by your very own Jedi Master. Well today was the kick off of the 4th week here on the tour, and this week's tournament is called the Rio Tinto Championship. The name comes from a company called Rio Tinto, who is based in England and Australia. They are a world-wide industry leader in finding, mining, and processing Earth's resources. So my hats off to them for taking time off to sponsor such a wonderfully ran tournament here on WGT. Let's take a look back at today's action and see who played and how they did.
Olympic was rather tame today and it saw some pretty nice scores being posted. As such with our first group. Kurtsbuford knocked in a solid 30, while his playing partner Priestess knocked in a lovely 29!! However those scores would of been a bit better had their reads of the greens been a little better. And Priestess's run-away pitch on number 9 left her scratching her head. Later that night both were seen inside the local bar reportedly completely inebriated and stripping for money. More details to come on this in the coming days.
Gehl13 & Sjon10 both stepped up to the tee box at Olympic just a little bit later and it was a tale of two different stories. Gehl13 had a couple of nice shots even though he was using the Rio Tinto sponsored WGT Irons. He managed a nice 30 for the day. While playing partner Sjon10 had a rough go. He ended his day on Olympic 2 over. I caught up with both of these players after their rounds for their comments on how they played. Gehl13 said "I hate hate hate hate hate starter irons!" Strong words from a frustrated player. Sjon10 just stood in silence as he threw his irons in a dumpster behind the clubhouse. This reporter was going to tell him that he needed those irons for the next round, but thought how funny it would be to see him kicking his ball down the fairway on St. Andrews because he trashed his starter irons. More on this developing story as it........errr....develops.
Later in the day three guys got together and had a crazy idea. Let's all play together in one group. AwsomeAl, Woodoworkery, & Hobbe95 all went out and played Olympic. Well, the craziness ensued at the start of the round. Woodoworkery realized after teeing off on the first hole that he somehow misplaced his 100yd wedge. So these three goofballs went and continued playing, focusing not on their game, but looking for Wood's wedge. They looked high. They looked low. They even looked in the middle. It was not to be found ANYWHERE! Till the 9th hole that is. Al just happened to walk by his bag and low and behold, out stuck Wood's trusty 100yd wedge. It was with him literally the ENTIRE time!! Somehow they all manged to stay at or under par for the round. Hobbe95 had the best round posting a 31! I'm sure there is more to come from these three so stay tuned.
And finally the player of the day has to be our current leader. LuisCraveiro! He is atop the leaderboard at -14 for the first two rounds. Luis played Olympic earlier in the day. He played along side of Petethepup, who didn't have that great of a day. Pete unfortunately shot a dismal 37 in round 1 and another dismal score of 38. Later that night he was seen punting a dog as he walked down a dark street. No charges are expected to come of this incident. Luis on the other hand shot a first round low of 27!!! Immediately after his game I tired to catch up with him, but he high tailed it out of there as he had his driver drive him to the airport to board his own personal jet. The destination? St. Andrews, home of the second round. Once he arrived at the course, he immediately stepped right into the tee box and picked up from where he left off. He birdied 14 of 18 holes combined over the two rounds!!! A very impressive feat with using those Rio Tinto sponsored WGT irons.
Will LuisCraveiro be on top at the dealine? Or will another player take that coveted number one spot from him? Only time will tell. Well,....I could being as I'm a Jedi Master, but what fun is that? Stay tuned to tomorrows action as many of the regular players on the tour are looking to get into the swing of things (pun intended), and more on those developing stories. Who knows? I may have other stories to report on. Until next time my friends. Goodnight.....Planet Earth!
