Well, they haven't mentioned how the locker room thing is going to play out yet.  "You're welcome to join, provided the co-ed showers aren't an issue?"  ;)

Heh-Worse than that. They ran into some culture shock when they were forced to accept Tiger. Now they get to deal with it again in spades with a woman of color. I'll bet they're absolutely frosted. :-)

Tiger Woods is not the first African American member.

Well many would say that it's taken them long enough.

Many, but not all. I'm all for equal rights as far as sexes go, but this seems like a crap move to me. And why, because of years of public pressure? There are hundreds and thousands of institutions steeped in tradition, Augusta being one of the more famous. I still can't work out at a Curves, but you don't see a bunch of guys with picket signs marching through the strip malls.

No, I don't agree with this at all, but it's just my opinion.

No it's not to you or me and most people. It is to an old world, stick in the mud Southern boy racist. If you think Hootie was anything less than that then you're not looking at the history of that venerable boys club rooted in the South where they're still fighting the Civil War in places. (At least in their minds.) It's finally coming into the 21st century but you just know it's killing the old guard to have to accept it.

Understood, Z, and I only know what I know from actually living down there. I loved the people but that weather sure sucks. And dusty red clay all over.  LOL. I was amazed at some of the archaic attitudes but it all made sense and was a good time period.

Nothing like a sweet southern belle sashaying up to you and  drawling "How y'all are?"  ;-)

Remember Lee Elder? In 1975, Elder became the first African American to play in the Masters. Leading up to the tournament he received substantial amounts of hate mail. Fearing for his safety, during the week of the tournament he rented two houses in town and kept moving between them, and always had people around him when he went to eat.

It takes untill 1975 before they let a Black guy tee it up there? I understand its an exclusive club and a has been a private club. But it has been the poster Club for segregation for too damn long.

Earl Woods had some harse comments about Augusta Country Club on the Golf Channel. If looks could kill.

personally I think it's quite embarrassing that it's taken so long for Augusta to accept female members.

hopefully Muirfield (venue for next year's British Open) follows Augusta's lead.

and to any other golf club who doesn't accept female members....shame on them.

I have to disagree with you post and agree with with the minority.

Are there any "men only" "gentlemen" clubs in anyones area?

Are there no "Ladies only"..etc. clubs?

It's not as if they don't (did not) not let females play...

Next, we need to bang on the doors of female only colleges to accept men...why havn't they done so yet?
