I have been watching The Barclay's, and the announcers keep referring to a PGA stat called "Bogey Avoidance"...Anybody ever heard of this stat and have any idea what it entails..?

It's a fancy way of saying not making bogeys. If you play 100 holes and make 10 bogeys, your "bogey avoidance" stat would be 10 percent, for the number of bogeys made vs. holes played.... (in other words, you make bogey on only 10 percent of the holes you play) so, the lower the better

It's like this Negative Growth they talk about on the business programs. Isn't there a word for that already?

    Lol...

You Brits always seem to confuse bogeys with boogies....

A bogey appears when you 3 putt a green... A boogie appears when something green comes out of your nose....(:o)

In that case I completely missed the point of the film 'Boogie Nights'.  It wasn't green and it didn't come out of Mark Wahlberg's nose!

    :-)

It used to be called "scrambling", but apparently that confused people?

Scrambling is slightly different and means making par after missing fairway or green-in-regulation.

Of course, missing green in regulation and making par is also called a save - sandies are called sand saves.

Scrambling and Sandies are the terms I recognise.

scrambling is only for missed greens in regulation, not fairways; and bogey avoidance has nothing to do with any bad shots, or making par even though you're in trouble. It's more like bogeys per round; the lower the % the better.
