Acey... I agree with you. It is ridiculous. The frequency of quitting on this site is simply staggering. People quit for a whole boatload of reasons and none of them make sense to normal people who simply want to play the game they started. Everyone who plays a random 4 person multi-player game has, imho, about a 1 in 10 chance to finish it with one player, and more like 1 in 100 to finish with all participants.
The quitting has been epidemic since the launch of the multi-player and it is one of the main concerns of the players.
The two points with which I will slightly disagree are these:
- This is not WGT's main concern, nor should it be. WGT's main concern should be presentation of new courses and the correct playability of the current ones. This brings in new players which, in turn, brings in new money. New money, for any business, is the life-blood on which the game lives or dies.
- Locking quitters into the game. Yes, there are 2 million reasons people leave MP games, but to 'force' them into anything will only drive old and new players away. People will not play MP games anymore.
Playing with the off-site groups only guarantees that you will be paired with like-minded individuals. People who don't WANT to quit, but who know that they can if the need arises.
The Reputation Tracker has always been a bit of a red herring in my opinion. It's not going to stop or deter anything... just give numbers geeks a reason to kick players out of games.
Remember, my friend, that this game's first appeal, besides golf, is that you can play for free. If you place too many restrictions on the 'free' players, you won't get them hooked enough to spend their new money.
I do agree with you, mostly, and I hope that you can see my points.
Peace.
