I rarely calculate the correct distance on this par 3. It is 166 yards and 23 feet down. Often times I come up short. Is this a hole where the elevation doesn't play?

I'm very inconsistent on this hole and would appreciate some tips on how to play this hole better.

    Thanks

I guess play it asif it were 159yards...

I know what you mean though, I struggle getting the right distance with whistler number 10, its down 45 feet, but if you minus 15 yards you drop well short.

I could be wrong here but what I have found is that the steeper the elevation the ball most often will hang up higher and drop straight down.

There are lots of factors that come into play here -

Wind - into you: not as much decrease in yardage due to elevation drop (the ball hangs in the air and drops dead)

Wind - with you: very big decrease in yardage due to elevation drop.

Spin - any backspin on those shots, the effect is multiplied.

Cross wind : allow much more effect for cross wind (left to right adjustment).

Also - different balls/clubs affect shot.

Suggestion:  go to Tab WGT Community/Golf Courses/Bethpage/Hole 8 - practice many approach shots and record the result each time for different conditions.  Once you've got a decent sample you should be able to see the effects and be able to play the shot in Ranked play with confidence.....

As Druss said,  there are a lot of factors to take into account for your shot there.

What I did was,  playing a practice round,  or in my case a  ranked stroke play round for practice.  I like to practice in ranked mode just in case I get an ace so it will count in my stats.  If nothing worth saving happens, I just quit the round before the score counts.  I don't mind losing out on XP's for the chance to have a HIO count.

Anyways....  when I get to a hole like BPB #8,  I just hit a club that's closest to the distance of the hole without factoring in the elevation.   I hit it with no spin and full power,  then just write down how much further my shot went than the rated distance of  my club choice and use that info for future reference.

So, if I hit my 165 yard club there, and it goes 180 yards, I know that next time I play the hole to either add 15 yards to my club choice or take off 15 yards from the tee shot.

Of course, the wind direction and speed will alter that theory each time I get to that hole.

Uphill is 3ft = 1 yard (for longer clubs 3i-7i), the % drops as I get to more lofted clubs..

Downhill is 4ft = 1 yd (or 75% if you prefer), that should help a bit, works for the 'big boys' of WGT and it works for me

    Peace

Another thing you should weight in.. is tee.. usually you get more distance from tee..so even with headwind, expect a few yds more, unless you get a 15 mph and use bs. Also depends on balls and spin of ur clubs... and trajectory of ur irons...every time you move the dot to bs... ur losing yds.. if you miss the ding, you(should) lose yards... there is no recipe for anyone...it's a combination of factors, and vem, of course.
