    hi

this hole is a pain in the bottom to say the least.

from my tees the distance is 196 so this advice may be worthless

but what i tend to do is club down to 180 full top spin then power off a little depending on the wind of course.

give this ago it may help or may not but wont hurt to try :)

Good way to do it. You might come up short sometimes but the putt is decent.

I rarely calculate the correct distance on this par 3. It is 166 yards and 23 feet down. Often times I come up short. Is this a hole where the elevation doesn't play?

I'm very inconsistent on this hole and would appreciate some tips on how to play this hole better.

    Thanks

"Hubby" couldn't help with this 1, Nance?  ;-)

I apologize. It's just that whenever I read stories that resemble swiss cheese, I can't help myself. You'd think I'm a mouse, not a cat.

About the shot, (with your current irons and balls)

front pin (166y): side wind, 7i full power and about 1/4 bs, tailwind 6-10 mph =7i full with full bs, front wind 6-10 mph either 7i full with no bs or around 170y power on the 6i with full bs.

back pin (192y): side wind, 5i full power with full bs, tailwind same club with full bs, but take as many y of power off as there's mph in wind speed, front wind, 5i with no spin.

With slight adjustments to power with different wind speeds, it should get you close enough for easy birdie putts.

I agree with your opinion. I always hit to yardage and adjust for wind. 3 iron to back pin placement and 6 to front pin. Lot's of spin on both.

Why did you pick a 2 month old thread as your 1st post ?

Suggestion:  go to Tab WGT Community/Golf Courses/Bethpage/Hole 8 - practice many approach shots and record the result each time for different conditions.  Once you've got a decent sample you should be able to see the effects and be able to play the shot in Ranked play with confidence.....

Brilliant! .....was wondering if it was possible to replay a hole over and over....Thanks.....this will  definitely help in honing my shot routine on those head scratcher holes...never saw that page before - duh!  Thanks!!!

The following is copied from my course notes, which are in turn plagiarised from a poster on this forum, (my apologies I cannot for the life of me remember the OP), which I have adapted.

    Normal 0 false false false EN-GB ZH-CN X-NONE

    Hole 8 - Downhill Par 3

    The tee shot

This hole is all about club selection and wind. At 20'-30' below you, you have to know which club is going to give you the right distance, and that's going to depend largely on the tee box location.

For the Pro thru Tour Master tees, a good rule of thumb is to club down for light winds, club down twice for a good tailwind, and play the regular yardage in a strong headwind. Obviously this depends on your particular clubs more than anything, but it's an effective general guideline.

Because the pin is so far below the tees and because it's on an upslope, the ball is going to stick this green like a wedge shot.

Don't miss right or left. Try to get your line perfect. Crosswinds affect this hole less than you'd expect so don't overcompensate for the wind. If you're short or long, you will have a fairly straight putt. If you miss left or right, you'll have a hard breaking putt.

The best scenario is a good line to the pin and short, this gives you a simple uphill putt for birdie.

    @ putterdog

Top of screen/page, go to WGT Community & click on 'Golf Courses"

Had my first HIO on Beth #8 as a beginner player here, with a 3wHybrid starter club!

Haven't got one close since :(
