If the internet has taught me anything, it's that I will never live in Australia.

I have been lucky enough to have lived in the UK, USA, Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand and the place I will always call home, Australia. Truly is the best place on earth (and yes I am biased) and I have visited many many places around the globe so is based on my experiences.

Great post Shrude sharing the lighter and brighter side of Christmas downunder. Oh Pizza, if you do come down you are welcome to a barbie at my house and a round of golf at my local club (but bring plenty of balls as we have a lot of water - makes the WGT stole my balls threads quite laughable).

I was born in Sri Lanka... Family came over here in 1965, when I was 5 yrs old and now  living here for 47yrs.

Actually we were the original boat people...lol...   but we came over here on a Cruise Ship... Sea Princess (I think), it's a bugga I can't remember the trip....lol.

I've traveled the world, in my younger years and was very enjoyable....    and to me this is a great country to live in.....

Open Invo to everybody who decides to come Downunder.... Look us up, we will give ya's a great time :)

    gsoup:
try that with one from each island

Is that New Zealand? They have a Nth and a Sth Island.

Australia is one big continent with a few smaller islands littered around the shores.

ANY WGT friend is welcome to a few shouts of amber ales down at the local rubbity dub.

Unfortunately the 'Aussie Strine" in my OP isn't my usual dialect.

I'm From Sth Australia originally our accents aren't quite as strong as my buddies in the eastern states.

Having said that, we are slowly losing some of our colourful language.

The true Aussie Digger slang is fading away slowly and surely. Some of it is here to stay, but a lot of the true Aussie slang, is usually only found in the outback pubs now.

We have a rising star in TV at the moment, Shane Jacobsen, perhaps some of you have seen him in his first movie 'Kenny; it was about his life as a porta-loo operator.

Find it in your local DVD shop, worth a watch.

He is the only recent media personality to still have a real Aussie twang to his language.

Heres the trailer to the movie.

"There's a smell in here, thats gonna outlast religion!"

"This is a crazy time of year, its just going bonkers, its as silly as a bum full of smarties"

Now y'all have Merry Christmas y'hearl!

    Shine on... .  .

Agreed, Kenny is well worth watching and another movie I have always recommended is The Castle. Some of my Americal colleagues loved it, some sat stony faced through it, so depends on how much you can relate to us Aussies and your sense of humor.

And South Australian are much more refined, I spent a year in Adelaide, and us Sydneysiders stand out with a much brasher accent, but did play some great golf courses down there, including Royal Adelaide and Kooyonga. For the real strine accent you really need to go bush and meet the local.

If anyone is planning visiting Aussie, where ever you go I am sure you will love it,

    Alan, blue skies and tailwinds

General rule of thumb, if it has a BRIGHT colour anywhere on it, stay away.  :)
Or in the case of snakes, patterns and bandings.
