I'm not here to argue for or against the gun lobby

Sorry TBE, but thats exactly what you did, sure its an atrocity, but gun control has nothing to do with it. Statistics clearly show that the 31 states that allow their citizens to carry firearms have the LOWEST crime rates in our country and the states and towns with the highest rates of crime have the stricter gun laws. Even the UK, with its extremely strict gun laws is not immune from this type of insane crime.

Criminals and the insane whacko's who commit this sort of atrocity will find a way to to do it regardless of what laws are on the books! There was a guy in China this week who maimed 27 people with a knife! Blaming tools for the job they do is simply an exercise in illogical thinking. The true blame lies with the societal cultures that produce these sociopaths.

One person, had they been armed, in that school could have stopped that imbecile in his tracks. It's not the people licensed to carry firearms that commit these acts, they are the exact ones that can and do prevent them! I for one, am sick and tired of this worn out argument to ban guns (impossible), that comes up every time someone is killed with a gun. It's the same thing as blaming automobiles for car wrecks, shall we ban cars? I had to go through a local, state, and federal background check to obtain my open/concealed carry license along with everyone else in my state who legally carries, we are not the ones or the type that commits this kind of act. There are already numerous laws that prohibit criminals and even the unlicensed to carry firearms on the street!

My sympathy to all those affected by this terrible event.

i wont get into the conversation about carrying guns or not. What i will say is my heart is deeply saddened by this tragedy and i will hug and kiss my 4 children a little tighter and hold them a little longer. Not trying to get to deep personally but i have 4 children who range from 2 to twins at age 6 and they are absolutely defenseless. I understand people have issues as we all have our own but i feel this was gutless and cowardly. My thoughts and prayers to the families who were affected by this.

This is a total tragedy, and being at this time of year makes it that much worse as it will live on in the hearts of survivors and the family of the victims each year.

Some people have started debating the gun laws which always comes up when a tragedy like this comes up. That debate has been beatin on over and over again. Here in Canada we have more guns per Capta then the US, so with that being said it is not the gun laws that need to be addressed. Guns don't kill people, people kill people end of story.

With that being said in most of these cases usally there is some sort of mental problem or attribute to a mental problem. If people are looking at solutions to events like this rather then "Must get Gun to bear arms" or "Must  increase Security at Schools etc.". Maybe society at large would benefit more by people standing together and telling our governments we need to increase funding to Mental Health. By doing this as a country or world endeavour maybe we could increase the chances of fixing these problems before it comes to events like this. In my country when it comes to medical, one of the 1st dropped programs is to mental patients. This is the wrong way to think.

Thats just my thought on the matter, my heart goes out to the families and wish them the best in these hard times.

    Mes.

This is a very sad day, indeed.

I'm glad we are all able to come together and commiserate over this topic while maintaining the appropriate composure to show respect to those lost.

    Stay classy,

We are just getting the News over here...   I'm deeply affected by this tragedy.

I'm trying not to swear here.... and it's effing hard.....

20 kids and 6 adults....   5-10 yr old kids.... for effs sake

People have been saying changing guns laws and all that jazz.... In Australia, that has worked (banning guns)... Over in USA, not sure it will work.

Might have to get airport type security for all schools now, regardless of costs.

Looks like the shooter's mum was a teacher at the school, which will explain how he got in through the doors.....  I presume he needed a code to get in the door, or somebody there let him in, because he was trusted... for effs sake.

My thoughts go out to everybody in this Sad Sad Sad day :(

Absolutely sickening news......can't imagine what those families are going through and the very thought of it makes me fear for where this world is headed.

I live in a sleepy little town in one of the 31 states with the more relaxed gun laws.  We have literally no violent crime and many of our citizens carry firearms anyway.  I agree with those that have said that if everyone were allowed to carry then the chicken$shits that do this sort of thing would be much more hesitant to do so....they are cowards by nature and would never venture into a fight where the odds are even.

I'm still relatively a pup, closing in on 36, but with a wife that teaches 5th grade, a 5yr old son in pre-school, and a 4yr old daughter in daycare I find myself getting hit pretty hard in the gut when news such as this comes out.....it's just impossible not to think "what if".  In fact, think I'm off to pick the kiddos up and take 'em hunting.....actually don't think I could bear to kill anything at the moment (though I'd love a shot at the chicken$hit that caused all this) but have a feeling I'm gonna enjoy just hanging with the kiddos in the hunting blind.  Not even gonna tell 'em to be quiet this time, hell we aren't there to see any deer anyway.
