Terrible tragedy, no words can/could ease the parents suffering, nor the loved ones of those who were killed.  I won't even try.

    EnglishRosey:
the primary function of a gun is to kill.

In a sense yes, but many of us have giving up hunting (no time), but love sport shooting still.

It may be difficult to those who have not grown up around firearms to understand.

Regardless, if all guns were outlawed, only outlaws would would have guns...yes, honest individuals would turn theirs in, but dishonest people would not.  We'd all be "fish in a barrel".

There's just too many guns in circulation within the US...it would take 500 years to make a dent in ferreting them out.

.I know whilst I celebrate Christmas Day with my young daughter and watch her happiness at opening her presents etc, my thoughts will also be with those mothers and fathers of Newtown who tragically and sadly have been heinously deprived of experiencing the same feelings of joy and happiness.

Wow, you just put the words out that have been banging around in my mind.

    Very well said sir.

    Cheers!

the gun debate will never end. Without dredging it up too much, I do think that easy access allows easy action.  All I know is, I picked up my 10 year old daughter from a  friends house tonight, hugged her tightly, told her how much I loved her....watched her fall asleep and shed a few tears as I thought about what those parents have to go through now. Think I must have kissed her forehead a dozen times while she slept.

    God bless all

Even the UK, with its extremely strict gun laws is not immune from this type of insane crime.

This type of tragedy has happened once in the UK and that was 16 years ago (Dunblane School).

It happens 3 or 4 times a year in the US whether it's a school, cinema or other place where innocent people get together.

If this ridiculous archaic "right to bear arms" law isn't banished once and for all I guarantee this will happen 3 or 4 times in 2013 and people like sixkiller will still be saying "my sympathy to all those affected by this terrible event".

Wake up and smell the blood and tears sixkiller . .

Insane people with a desire to kill will still kill people even if gun laws are tightened up. Look at 9/11.    Terrorists with a desire to kill high-jacked planes with box cutters!  IMO, if you get rid of guns, the bad guys who want to take away lives will still end up with a gun.  All we can do is be more aware of our surroundings.

That is True,  but the shooters Mum was a teacher at the school and a trusted person.

Ban Guns?  Not sure,  As I said before, It's worked in our Country...   It could be the best thing, but the criminals will get the guns under the counter.

Terrorists....  that is another subjeck... but when it comes to 5-10 year old kids... any aged Kids getting killed by a sicko walking through the gates.....  that is not on.

All Schools have to spend the money now to get more security in... just like an Airport.... and trust nobody.

This is so very sad. Innocent people being gunned down for no bloody reason at all. This is human kind?

My heart goes out to the families and friends of the innocent.

It may be ridiculous to you Lobsterboy, but it is our heritage and gauranteed right in this country, you socialist apologists need to go  back and look at what Hitler did in the 1930's, his first agenda was to deny the public the right to have firearms, that worked out well for Germany, eh? The issue remains that guns don't kill, people do. If you take away that right, only the criminal element will have them, and you will be desperately calling 911 as the thugs kick your door in and murder YOUR kids!

Good point Roger...and what is so strange (IMO) is the scools my kids attend.

All three schools have the ability to "lock them down"..but never are, anyone can walk right ibn, or use open parking lot access, and be "inside" within" a minute.

Heck, even at our HS here, I can go through the main doors with out so much as a second look from anyone...maybe this tragedy will open some eyes and those in charge will work hard to prevent this from occurring again.
