NEWTOWN, Conn. -- A lone gunman killed 26 people at an elementary school here, including 18 children, in a terrifying early Friday morning shooting spree. Amonst that he shot his mother that worked there. Moment of silence for the families. And remember there is alot more to worry bout than this game so gotta start taking life more seriously and stop with the nonsense. Embrass all as a family and try to have a happy holidays.

Very sad,I think all schools faculties should have to carry,,,with proper training of course,we live in a country with aprox 300 million people if as a percentage only 1 percent are totally whaco (I believe the percentage is higher) it means there are 3 million potential nut case's running loose and wreaking havoc,I never go anywhere unarmed anymore!

Truly shocking news....and again at a school. Not too long ago it was some crackpot opening fire in a cinema.

I know there will be many Americans disagreeing with what I have to say but I think it's way past time gun control got tightened dramatically in the states.

It's time to get guns off the streets. Keep them in the homes. By all means bear arms to defend your property at all costs from intruders etc.

Elementary schools....not forgetting the adults who died....these were kids aged between 5 & 10 years old....and their lives have been heinously ended before they've even had a chance.

Unless something is done to remove guns from being carried around on the streets, we're only going to keep seeing more and more of these monstrous acts of depravity.

I understand it's an american's right to bear arms but if everyone wants to go round carrying a gun to protect themselves from whaco's, then this problem will never diminish...and on the contrary it's more likely to increase.....just as we are seeing with school shootings over the past 13 years since Columbine.

With approximately 300 million folks in the US....who's a whaco? who's not?....too difficult and time consuming to judge. Best way forward is a blanket ban and to outlaw guns from being carried around in open society.

I'm not here to argue for or against the gun lobby......All I do know is that something clearly needs done to make societies a safer place to live. I say societies because gun crimes are a global issue. The same thing happened in Dunblane & Hungerford here in the UK.

The Dunblane school massacre occurred at Dunblane Primary School in the Scottish town of Dunblane on 13 March 1996. The gunman, 43-year-old Thomas Hamilton (b. 10 May 1952), entered the school armed with four handguns, shooting and killing sixteen children and one adult before committing suicide. Along with the 1987 Hungerford massacre and the 2010 Cumbria shootings, it remains one of the worst criminal acts involving firearms in the history of the United Kingdom.

Public debate subsequent to these events centred on gun-control laws, including media-driven public petitions calling for a ban on private ownership of handguns and an official enquiry, the Cullen Report. In response to this debate, the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1997 and the Firearms (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 1997 were enacted, which effectively made private ownership of handguns illegal in the United Kingdom.

America should take a lead from this.

My deepest heartfelt sympathies go out to all the families grieving their lost loved ones tonight.

My condolences also go out to parents who now face the tough task of trying to help those kids who were lucky enough to get away today but who will now inevitabley go through years of anguish and will need counselling.

changed my avatar pic for the weekend
in memory of the innocent lives taken. I'm not the type that would
"call out" on others to do the same, too "facebookish",
but that's what I felt like doing anyways...

I don't believe in death and so I hope those pure untainted souls
find a brighter path in their ongoing journey of life.

Hard to fathom what the F&%k is wrong with the world anymore....I think t.v, movies, violent video games, instant gratification for everything, peer pressure, internet...etc,. all play a part...but, for Chr*#t's sakes.....how does one get to the point where they massacre children.  Perhaps it's just time for a global disaster that cleans half of the planet and we start fresh.

"Unless something is done to remove guns from being carried around on the streets, we're only going to keep seeing more and more of these monstrous acts of depravity."...I would say this is impossible and I will be carrying anytime I'm outside my home for now on,I would rather have a gun and not need it than need a gun and not have it...........

I was just reading this story.  Truly shocking and my sincerest condolences go out to those families that were affected.

    @TBE

Not trying to debate the gun laws and such,  but I don't think making gun laws tighter would make it better.  It's the idiots that don't follow the laws doing these horrendous things anyway.

IMHO,  "law abiding citizen" have too many gun laws that keep them from being able to protect themselves.  If gun laws weren't so strict, and more people were able to protect themselves, the crazy gunmen would maybe take a second thought if they thought  that there was even the slightest chance that their victims could return fire.

Stricter gun laws just makes a bad-guys day at work easier.  I don't want to only be able to protect my "property" in my own home, if I take my family out for anything,  I want to be able to protect them anywhere.   When seconds count, police are only minutes away.

    Agree 10000%.

I'd rather be tried by twelve than carried by six.
