Renn, I'm no atty, and it may be legal in a court of law, but they will get crucified in the court of ethics and public opinion. You never said whether you signed it. But yes or no, I'd let it be known what they did and let public opinion bring the bastards to their knees.

If they are asking for 2 years of non compete, you should expect at least 2 years of severence pay.  Asking for you not to sue for age discrimination is almost an admission of guilt.  Get a good lawyer and sue them.   I'm not an attorney but I worked as a SVP of Finance in a Fortune 100 compnay for 30 years and have been on the other side of this many times.   They are just fishing to get out as cheaply as possible, don't let them.

I didn't sign anything, really has them on their toes at the moment. I have been approached by other companies, but I haven't committed to any so far. At my age, I want at least a 5 year contract, until I can retire. Unfortunately, I live in Georgia, which is a right to work state, an employer can let you go at any time, for any reason, with no recourse. It's the crazy paperwork they presented that has me shakin my head. Any ways, enough about my personal issues. Let's meet some new folks on here, people we know, but don't know. Looking forward to some new introductions.

First and foremost, can WGT explain why this thread has not been stickied???????

As for you Renn, I am not sure of the laws in the US. Age discrimination is not a valid ot legal reason for terminating a contract, so I would NOTsign it and seek legal advice. It is also against the the Human Rights Acts most countries adhere to.

As for the not working for a competitor this really relates to your original contract you signed. This is still a gray area even if it has been signed it usually only applies if you have a specialist area of expertise. If they are saying you cannot work fullstop they are dreaming.....unless they pay you out for that time.

My last job I had a preclusion of working for another company (same industry) if I left before my 5 year term was up(and lost a substantial bond if I left early) but this was agreed to when I joined and common for my industry.

Seek legal advice - and ensure they are a specialist in employment law.

Did a google search and read this from  HQ Global Legal Resoures.Org

    http://www.hg.org/wrongful-termination.html

Almost all states operate under the “employment at will” doctrine, which is most simply described as the right of an employer to fire an employee for no reason and the right of an employee to quit for no reason. Despite the fact that most U.S. states operate under this “at will” employment doctrine, there are circumstances in which employees have legal recourse for being terminated by showing that the termination was wrongful due to a violation of their legal rights. Though, a common misconception is that an employee can sue for wrongful termination simply because he/she was treated unfairly, this alone, is not sufficient cause.

Sufficient legal cause to file suit for Wrongful Termination may include the following situations.

    - Discrimination: basing termination solely on a class trait that is legally protected, such as age, race or nationality, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion, etc.;

Don't let them take advantage of you Renni.

How have I not seen this thread before!

Very warming to see all come out from behind their facade.

    Hi Trendsetters, I'm Tony.

I live in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Australia

Just turned 52 last Christmas, yes, i was a gift :)

Born in Western Australia to a German Mother and Spanish Father, I never met my Father, so, I was brought up with German culture. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, which I consider to be my home town.

Adelaide is one of Oz's smaller cities, with an abundance of culture, wine and food festivals and some of the countries best theatre,

Almost married twice,  although  my lifestyle at the time wasn't conducive to settling down anywhere, in hindsight it might have been nice, but I have no regrets.
I have a beautiful Daughter 37yo, who lives in Adelaide.
She was born when I was 17  :)

I have played Guitar since I was 18, although sometimes I think the only people who enjoy my playing are small children and pets. I do intend to learn the flute .. one day.

I write music, short stories & have a website with nearly 50 pieces of my poetry and other scribes. Some of which have won awards.

My favourite things are travel, food & wine, theatre, classic cars, music of most types, golf, tennis, antiques, photography, art,  fishing, the country, creativity, homeopathics & alternative thinking.

I havent played golf in a long time, possibly 4 years ago now, but I used to play very regularly once and sunk a lot of hard earned into it. I was never that good at it and I am still no good at WGT.  :)
Pool (8 -ball & Snooker) is more my game i could kick anyones butt in pool most times :)

I'm a drinker with Bourbon neat being my staple, I also enjoy good wine and G&Ts - heck, just step on my foot and my mouth will open anyways.

My first car was a Vauxhaul Victor 'Super'', However this  didn't  hang around long as I quickly bought a Ford Fairlane V8 and have pretty much been a Ford and V8 guy ever since.

I love the classic cars from the 40s - 70's

I owned and restored a 1962 Studebaker GT Hawk for 12 years, which won 'peoples choice' & 'best of class' awards at shows etc and sold that recently for a tidy profit.

I left school as soon as I could and without any tertiary education ended up in Sales all my life and usually in the top 3 for the division/ country etc. (Completed a Cert4 in Business Sales & Marketing last month)

I was  promoted  to my first Sales Division when I was 19.

I flitted between opportunities most of my life, travelling  wherever  the dollar was and have been involved in Music, Insurance, Advertising, Art, Health, Vehicles, Photography and currently Software.

At one point I promoted bands and  nightclubs  between Melbourne & Adelaide and helped  achieve  some success for some Australian acts. I was also involved in the  'establishment' of the Hard Rock Cafe for Sydney. Back then I had hair down to my butt and wore leather jeans. :)

I was involved in Indoor Air Purification (IAQ) for a long time, Helping those with breathing disorders and anywhere they needed clean indoor air. (you'd be surprised)
I ran a branch in IAQ for an  American  company and after a 12 year relationship broke down, I closed those doors & I ended up starting my own PC business and was very successful in that for a few years until I eventually got head hunted and after many carrots dangled at me I finally decided to sell the business and take up a role as National Sales Manager for the same American company here in Sydney in 2001.
I ran 'Top Gun' Sales training schools & mentored new Managers/ Distributors for our company, as well as being outsourced to other companies.

I took a back step from that in 2005 and am now the Sales Manager for a Software Company in the Auto Industry.

Although I have had to take another back step on that due to recent health issues.

I found WGT when I  couldn't  find my installation disc for Links LS and thought there must be a golf game out there to download.
Coming from FPS games, I never expected to be this involved in a golf game.
I created the Aussie Aussie Aussie Country Club the day after I joined WGT and in just over 2 years, our club has grown very admirably, we have many long standing members and are the 2nd from top 'true' Australian clubs, 37th in the highest earners.

I'm very proud of our club. The club has a focus of developing lower tiers and usually refuse membership applications from Legends and above. Hence most of our members are loyal & the club earnings reflect a developed club. 95% of our Legends and our three Tour Legends grew with the club.

This will never be MY club, it is the people involved which bind the intricate threads of loyalty, sharing, communication and development, we grew it together and share the common focus of helping each other. Major club decisions are shared with the Club Captains who do a damn good job of holding the clubs focus.

We regularly run ad-hoc tournaments for Pro Shop prizes and have  many regular tourneys for major prizes including our Annual Club Championship. We have a mentor/ coach program and training available and provided by Masters and above.

I get a kick out of and always have, developing a person beyond their self limitations and expectations. This is what has driven me through my career and for our club.

I have met some great souls here in WGT and although our faces may never meet, some of you might know how you have influenced my tenacity for the site and the great joy & fun you have given me.

Very nice to meet all of you who took the time to write your Bio and hope to see you on the greens real soon now y'all hear?

    Shine on.   .  . ..
