Great read Shrude and that's why WGT should sticky this thread. Come on WGT!!!!

I spent a year in Adelaide and it does have some of the best food and wine the country can offer. My highlight was the weekly visit to the Adelaide Market.

Being of German heritage you would also have a close infinity to Handorf - a great place in the Hills.

And what better place to live than the beautiful Blue Mountains, great golf courses, fantastic scenery and walks and like WGT - a real sense of community.

Which gets me to the point - WGT STICKY this thread ....please!

You know, it may have been the thread title that had me skip over it before. Perhaps a title something like "Who are you?" or "Tell us about the YOU" or "Nice to meet you"  might add to the theme?

Australia, last time I looked had something like 28 wines in the worlds top 100. Sth Australia having about 20 of those. :)

Adelaide Central Market is world famous i Have often seen it featured in non-aussie TV shows. , none other like them in Australia for fresh produce. Completely different in atmosphere and value to the Sydney produce markets, which is a very cold and cutthroat environment.

Oh yes! Hahndorf is awesome! From everything to the German Wurst houses to the restaurants and the picturesque little town it is.  Take a walk down the main street here.
My most fondest memory of Hahndorf is the day they opened up the German Arms Hotel on a Sunday. The first Sunday opening Hotel in Sth Australia. :)
    the town was PACKED. :)

I do love it up here away from the rat race in Sydney, too much aggression on the streets there. Still very much country living in the Mountains. From high mountain escarpments to lush rainforest, its all here. People actually smile and say 'hi' as you walk past. I have many native birds that visit my rear verandah.

Fantastic SHRUDE, enjoyed your addition to this thread. I am German on my fathers side and Irish on my mothers side. Yes I like to drink a bit myself, all beer now, had to give up my Jack. This is what my original intention was with thread. Great post my friend.

Came across this thread last night, and I ended up reading every single post. I don't think I've played a single round with any 1 here but still found it a really good read.

I am the youngest of 4 children, have always been a rebel as is natural for the youngest.

Have 1 surviving brother and sister.

In my teens after leaving school with average qualis I got some shitty office job, and got into  marijuana big time. I got caught and prosecuted and that forced me to leave shitty job, and I  went into computers.

Lived on my wits and intelligence and did OK, and eventually freelanced myself into Computer  Consultancy in Software Support.

Eventually the Peter Principle kicked in when I overstepped my capabilities and joined joined  Andersen Consulting on a fantastic salary.

I resigned that job and started a Thai restaurant with my Thai wife.

We did that for ten years, hugely successful and made a ton of friends.

It was the best ten years of my life, but oh such hard work.

We sold up in 2001 and came to retire to Thailand in 2002.

I lost my eye in a car accident in 1978, but thankfully everything else functions.

My appetite for beer is insataiable and I smoke a pack of Marlboro everyday.

I'll be dead soon, so no harm in being honest.

    Great thread Renn.

Best car I ever had was a bright red jaguar daimler in the early 80's, I used to scream up the A3 to London with the headlights on, and everyone thought I was the Sweeney.

Just stumbled on this posting and like a few others, absolutely blown away by some of the amazing stories and life experiences...Not had the pleasure of playing a game with anyone posting on here, but here goes with my story....

Hi, I'm David....Nearly 46 in a few months. Born and raised in Manchester, England as an Only child and engaged to be married for a second time to an amazing lady (I know I am biased) called Jane  (wedding 1st September this year).

I have two wonderful children from my first marriage...Charlotte is 16 going on 25 (very scary times indeed having a daughter growing up far too quickly) and Toby who is 12 and a budding actor.. I have also inherited two wonderful Step daughters Elle and Sian (17 and 20), the latter currently away at Nottingham Uni

Like someone else in an earlier posting, I was lucky enough or not as the case may be to pass my 11+ and went to Hyde Grammar near to Manchester  where I was lucky enough to stumble on a fantastic PE teacher who was a fanatical golfer and allowed me far much time off to play the game I loved...Have been playing the game since the age of 4 and at one point in my mid teens got as low  as a 2 handicap and did consider giving it a go full time...In those days, it was the old handicap system where you had to put 3 cards in to get lower...Just as I was about to get to 1 handicap, the system changed and we all went up 1 shot...If the truth be known, it was getting far too serious then and I had discovered beer and women by then and also been diagnosed with chronic arthritis at age 16 !!.......The final nail in the coffin was playing a County Match against Shropshire and coming up against a 14 year old (I was 17) who thrashed me 7&6...His name was Peter Baker and he went on to play in the Ryder Cup and do ok, although I think beer and women affected him eventually lol...Anyways I just play for fun these days and play off a more realistic handicap of 6 and have loads more fun...

I was heading to University at the age of 18 and going to Warwick University to study History and become a History teacher...At the eleventh hour, I opted out as I wanted to earn some money and within a month had applied for several jobs, one of which was with a Polyurethane foam company in a Management Trainee role...28 years later I am still with that company which is an American company called Carpenter Co based in Richmond Va..I have had a wide and varied career, running Plants, organising Health and Safety and Quality Engineering and now in my current role responsible for Continuous Improvement Programmes across our 20 odd European plants, which sure does keep me busy and away quite a bit in Europe.

I discovered WGT about 3 years ago and despite the many negative postings you get to read on the main forum from people about WGT injustices and VEM and all those perceived issues, I for one absolutely love it. Have made pretty good progress over those 3 years although by no means a Super Legend like many on here, but fortunate to be in a great CC (UKGE) and now one of the main organisers or as some like to say "Fixers" of events...We now have 5 regular weekly events, 72 hole MAJORS, Ryder Cups and many more great features which have really blossomed over the past 2 years and see weekly competition getting tougher and tougher...

When I can, play most days or every other day and anytime anyone ever fancies a game, don't hesitate to post an invite to play....Always happy to have a good craic and enjoy this great game we play...

    Cheers

    David
