For those of you who define "honesty" as opinions that are void of humour, or only if positive in tone, etc., I should point out that people express honesty in different ways. Humour may be how some people express honesty. In other cases, sarcasm is the vehicle used. They may all still be valid posts, just expressed in different ways. Very much akin to the point we all grieve differently. I actually think the vast majority of posts, throughout this very long string, are honest, or certainly have the intent to be. These posts run the gamut, from straight-forward bios, to painful and personal family situations, to those that simply try to lighten the mood. There is an old axiom that states "truth and fact" often differ, because truth is a personal and subjective thing, where as facts are cold and objective. Which of these two convey "honesty"?

ps...one final thought, the OP is in his mid-fifties, yet refers to himself as "old"...is he being honest?...to someone in his teens he probably is, but to someone in his mid-eighties?, not so much...honesty, like most everything else, is relative.

Sorry, the OP here says something different, '52 being Rich's year of birth ;)

And, a self-reference like "old" IS honest if it reflects true personal feelings. Of course we know that there are elder people but we may feel old ourselves regardless of the age.

Better to feel young of course!

    Howzit ct

I assume by OP you are referring to me.

    I was born on 19 November 1958.

I have endured huge amounts of hardship in my almost 58 years on this planet. I feel old. Relativity has absolutely nothing to do with this.

You have no right to say what you said. What must I do to prove I'm honest? I had parents who believed that black people were untermensch. My father boasted to all of us that he once punched a black who tried to jump on a bus he was on and that he fell off the bus and died. I was 5 years old when he told that story.

I served in the South African Army as an ops medic. I spent over a year in what was then known as South West Africa, now Namibia. I'm not proud of what happened and what I witnessed. If I had complained I would not have survived. Silence is consent?

I have endured abusive relationships and always blamed myself.

    Yes I am honest. I'm f u c k e d, thanks to this country.

    Your response however, was trite.

Quite simply: F U C K you and the horse you rode in on.

Walk a mile in my shoes, and then, appreciate your own life.

    Punk.

I am pleased that most of the comments I've received for the post I authored were positive....My sole intent was to suggest a sense of perspective on the many different opinions that have been included in this very long string. Fortunately, the vast majority of folks who read my post understood that.  My thoughts were not purposely directed at any specific person, or meant to be critical in nature. I did allude to a post from this string to help make my original point; simply that a person's "honesty" is relative to his or her own situation and viewpoint, and that it can be articulated in a variety of ways...that's all.

oh well, impossible to please everyone....:)

    cheers,

    ct

The OP is me, Rich, Renniw52, Squirrel Nutz. I am 63. Not old but not so young either. I totally agree with every ones ideas of being honest. If it's humor you need then so be it. If it is begging, bitching or complaining, then so be it. The original intent was to tell the community a little about yourself so we could get to know each other. I'll say again, do with this what you want. I don't have the strength  to fight any more.

My apologies, Rich...this string is so long, I had forgotten who originated it...lol. (Age, it seems, catches up to us all)....If your intent was to start a string that would allow WGT members to introduce themselves, then I would suggest it was a success !! ....Regardless of what folks said, or how they said it, we most certainly got to know a little more about them.
