OK, aside from it starting the level vs tier based debate, it would be really appreciated if a new owner would give a review.  :-)

It's loooong. So far the trajectory hasn't come into play as it handled CCC#4 fine and  the traps on BPB#12. Top spin seems to shorten the distance as does back spin but it carries 300+ regularly without wind interference. The meter is too slow, IMO, and is going to cause some grief to those that use R11 woods and irons with CG's-you'll have another meter speed to consider. I would say the difference is similar to the difference between the R11 and R11s.

If you're bummed because of the level availability, don't be. This isn't a must have.  :-)

Nope, not bummed at all, just curious.  Thanks for the write up!  I'll stick to the plan of getting the R11s when I can.  Just 130,192 more xp to go....whoo-hoo....(rolling eyes)

that feel when since i joined the site feb 2012 there have been 2 drivers to surpass the R11 but still absolutely nothing has changed at the top of the irons department

PLEASE tell me G25 irons are coming soon... -__-

Has anyone tried the level 48 one?

I'm dying to have it...But the price is so far beyond my means I would at this stage be kept happy just hearing anecdotes from other people who have it. Kind of like how a dog watches someone who is eating a rib, he knows he can't have it but he can't resist watching someone else enjoy it.

But I would very much be interested in hearing what people think about it with regards to performance vs price.

    Thanks :)

I have had the R1 for about 2 weeks now.   My only regret was that I had bought the R11s, I should have just stayed with the R11 until the R1 became available, of course if WGT would do a little better job of showing us upcoming products it would help.

    Regarding the R1....

I didn't like it at first.  The meter is a little slower so it throws you off if you have the R11 irons that matched the R11 speed.  Once I got used to that it was better.

The plus of the driver is that it is very long, especially if you use the right spin on the ball to take advantage of the wind and / or terrain.  I find that it is 10 plus yards longer than the old R11s I had.  It is also very forgiving, miss the ding a little early or late will hurt only a little in distance very little in right or left.

The negative, it is lower trajectory so there are a few areas on Olympic, Congressional and BPB that you have to be very careful of.   The forgiving comes into play on some courses as well.  For example on BPB #2 I try to early hit to simulate a hook, with the R1 this doesn't work nearly as well, still goes pretty straight.

All things considered this is a very good club and a step up from anything on the site.

I picked it up a bit after I got to the master tee's, and it really helped me pretty much eliminate not being able to hit every par 4 in two, and now most par 5's again.

Everything else has been really solid with it, and really I plan on using it probably until at least g20 at 81, if not the R11s at 94.  All depends on when/if I hit legend, and if I feel I need more distance at that point.

So far has been a really solid driver though and will prevent you from needing to upgrade for many levels.

The trajectory is a little misleading. It is closer to high.I played a CC tourney yesterday at Olympic and decided to really test it on #5. I expected to hit the tree. But to my surprise it either just went under that low hanging limb or barely cleared it. I should have saved the replay but didn't think about it until it was too late. The only way to miss it with the R11s was to use full T/S to go under it.And with the slower meter speed it is much easier to hit for me.The forgivness is priceless. The few missed fairways I have had is because the ball went much farther than I expected and went through the fairway. All things considered it is a great club.

That's the first place I went the day I got it-aimed directly at that low branch (tried to hit it) and the drive was a good 5 feet under it with no spin. I've found that full back spin gives it the normal trajectory of the R11s. CCC#4 is the same way-full back spin gets it over those trees. BPB#2 still plays to missing to the first line left of the ding without aiming.
