I hit that same tree the other day using about 1/2 backspin.  Glad to hear that you can go under it.

I have had back experience on BPB #2, can't seem to get it to go far enough left.  I was able to go over the tree on Congressional #4 but it is very close.

Don't touch the aimer, use full bs and hit the first line left of the ding. If the wind is blowing r to l, move the aimer slightly right. The key is trusting the shot.  :-)

Just wanted to thank you all for the tips on backspin for the drives, used to use it in golden tee all the time, not sure why I never had here, helped me a few times last night.  Also made me think about how to adjust for backspin with wind.  Took a few stroked off my games last night, and my best 18 round ever.

I'm no expert on the use of spin on the new R1 driver but this is what I have found.

On courses like STA and RSG all bets are off since sometimes you can use the top spin when you are down wind to ding the ball 400 yards.

The R1 has a lower loft and hits the ball lower than the R11 so generally I find that leaving the spin in the neutral position gives you a decent ball flight and good distance.  With a moderate wind behind 10 to 15 mph, the backspin seems to get a nice carry and the best distance.

Into a moderate wind I have found that leaving the spin neutral gets you about 290 yards on the normal courses.

I would love for some of the really good players to weigh in on this so that us hacks can learn how to better utilize this new weapon.

It is long, I had a 25 mph wind mostly behind me on STA 18 yesterday and hit the ball into the rough behind the green, think it went 385.  The distance says 287 but with moderate quality balls, I find that I am averaging 300 yards and it is very straight.

Try 1/2 to 3/4 bs, I think you'll be surprised. I've found that with the accuracy you can pinpoint spots in fairways, particularly the links courses, where the landing can propel the shot for extra roll. That 300 average has become the norm and the fwy % has skyrocketed for me.  :-)

    Thanks for the tip Jim.

I have actually tried that as well and been amazed.  You are correct you can really pinpoint places on the fairway with that driver using partial spin, it really helps at STA and RSG where you want to land on a mound or just clear a ridge, etc.

I'm sure I'll learn more as time goes on but my view is this driver can't be topped.......well at least until WGT comes out with a new, better, etc. one.
