    TarheelsRule:
having to program so that a ball going in a lake 3 feet from the shore being one you can retrieve versus one bing 6 feet away that you can't retrieve is something I'm sure WGT does not want to fool with.

+1 - try implementimg this then the complaints really start as it is a grey area. At least this way it is clear - hit into the water and it is gone,  Ball retrievers sound sensible, but how can the program ascertain whether the ball is retrievable and what isn't is far to contentious, Also my experience of finding water in RL - 90% will never be retrievable, sure some creaks/burns can be the opposite but this would need new code for every hazard.

What I do think would be fair, is in the case of a lost ball - yes you lose your ball but allow you to find a random ball with the same life left. Probably too dificult to program, but would simulate RL situations. OB is OB and lost - yes in RL you will often climb over the fence and search (often actually tresspassing on someones land).but to be honest, if the shot was that bad, accept it and move on.

Edit - DZ is right however - drop zones are too inconsistent in this game and we do not have OPTIONS.

Fronny, a lost ball/ball in hazard in RL has no hits left either.

Doing something like it's only in 3 feet of water so it can be retrieved, well what a ball that is 3.5 feet?  This just opens up a lot more questions as to what is lost and what isn't.  It makes more sense from a gaming standpoint to have it more cut and dry.  You go into the water it is lost.  Stay out of the water keep the ball.  In terms of OB, You have to figure out where the ball crossed the hazard to determine where to drop.  Because this is mostly honesty and the help of fellow players, Tiger Woods, to determine that in a WGT game is difficult to say the least.  Again cut and dry is the best policy for these kinds of questions.  Speaking of real life golf... In real life golf courses but dye into their water so you can't find your balls.

i know what yr saying alanti,,that a ball lost in real life has no hits left..but yr missing my point m8...

this is a game (not real) so should be fun for all skill levels,,and if u PAID for a ball,i just think u should have the hits,,whatever happens,,even if u lose 10 balls,,,u still have in the right corner of screen a ball, with so many hits..

    imo

Instead of bring able to retrieve your ball, why not, as suggested by another player, have hits come off.

Example: hit it OB lose 5 hits, water 10 hits, but you get to keep the ball.  Really sucks hitting a new ball into the drink, a ball with a few hits left not so much.

I haven't missed your point, I just disagree. Yes you have paid for the ball, but computer game or not, a lost ball is a lost ball. In RL if I hit a ball into water, it is invariably gone - can I go back to the pro shop and say, please sir, can I have my ball back?

Where I personally think the game can replicate a RL situation, is to allow you to find a "random ball with random life" as everyone who loses a ball in RL will often find another ball without finding their own ball. Most courses I have played have certain holes and areas that have a giant vacuum pulling the balls from the player. And I think there are several courses/holes that spring to mind on here.

The game is an should be fun for all levels - but I would also advise lower level players to use level appropriate balls (I have seen hacks with starters equipment using Nikes) as they will lose a fair amount of balls as they learn (and we all have been there, done that). Losing a Tour SD (was my ball choice till TM) does not hurt compared to a premium ball.

Edit: "You have to figure out where the ball crossed the hazard to determine where to drop.  Because this is mostly honesty and the help of fellow players, Tiger Woods, to determine that in a WGT game is difficult to say the least.  Again cut and dry is the best policy for these kinds of questions"

Actually this game makes it easier to determine (than a RL situation) where the ball crossed into the hazard, as the ball can be replayed as well as the program could determine this. The problem is coding to allow for this and how to allow for other options- I am not a computer whizz so do not know how difficult the changes would be, but as DB inferred, the rules of golf are very complex and often you will have three choices and I have the gut feeling any change would cause more issues than it resolves.

thats fine, but what if you only got 7 hits on the ball left, and u water it ???

but yeah,,like u said,,,u never hit a ball with only few hits left into the water,,its ALWAYS a decent ball,,with plenty of hit,,nearly new ball that u hit in the hazard....

    oh well......

    play well      lol

LMAO Fronny, for me it is the opposite, I tend to take risks with a few hits left on a ball, and conservatively with a new ball.

I guess that's a lesson many could learn from.
