    WGTdbloshoe:
This just opens up a lot more questions as to what is lost and what isn't.

    Agreed....

    WGTdbloshoe:
It makes more sense from a gaming standpoint to have it more cut and dry.  You go into the water it is lost.

    Wrong.....the Swilken Burn's 2 inches deep lol.....and 6ft wide at max.

    Par Example.....

The Swilken Burn which cuts through St Andrews #1 & #18 is NOT out of bounds...NOR are balls irretrievable (as you can see from that vid...the only ball in the water is his) & can be either played out of or picked out getting you a penalty stroke....that is unless it's here on WGT where your ball's stolen from you.

I think it's safe to say that on Andies #1 & 18...if folks play into it.....WGT could penalise the player 1 stroke and force the drop ball...BUT let them have the ball.

    Just Sayin'

    Agree mate....

I only posted that for fun.

To be honest.....no matter how annoying it is....if ball goes into water or OOB in this game, then it's gone. We know by now what happens if you play into water or go OOB....so best just to avoid it or suffer the pain :)

Where I personally think the game can replicate a RL situation, is to allow you to find a "random ball with random life" as everyone who loses a ball in RL will often find another ball without finding their own ball. Most courses I have played have certain holes and areas that have a giant vacuum pulling the balls from the player. And I think there are several courses/holes that spring to mind on here.

This to me seems like a really good idea. As in real life if I shoot the ball in the weeds or whatever  I will look for mine., sometimes finding it or more times than not find another lost ball.  sometimes its better than the one I lost sometimes not. But usually it seems I go away from the course with more balls than I had started with.

(In water if its retrievable I will try and get it back too  hehehehe)

There are just way too many variables with shots that are lost or out of bounds for WGT to program in which can be retrieved and which can not.  As TBE has said the 'creek' that runs through St Andrews is generally only 6 inches deep, although I have seen a couple of feet of water in it before, at places it is only 6 feet wide and the sides are not very deep, however some places, like in front of #1 are probably 4 foot deep, at my advanced age I would never venture into it to retrieve a new Callaway.

Other places are the same.  At Kiawah, the hazard on the 2nd hole is not deep and often dry, you can easily pick up a ball but on the back side the hazards to the right of the first few holes are deep lagoons or marshes that you would never venture into.

Out of bounds is similar.  I have played many courses where you ball might go out of bounds but be in plain sight and easily picked up.  Others there is deep grass, fences, etc. that make it not worth your time.  In Florida on a course near Destin, there was a sign saying not to attempt to retrieve your ball, this area is inhabited by rattlesnakes so every area is different.  In Hilton Head at a course I was a member at there was a sign on a couple of holes of a wetlands area, you were not allowed to go in to retrieve balls.

It's just too complex.  At the higher levels, we don't lose many balls unless we are trying a stupid shot or just miss badly and the penalty then is you lose a ball.  Like in real golf the ball you lose is always a new one that you just took out of the sleeve, don't think I"ve every lost one that I was about to take out of play.

Don't bother them Shoe, it's here already. Look for the shots from CCC lakes that have been posted here lately.

Concerning balls "lost" in shallow water, to the benefit of WGT I have always thought like a professional on these courses. While there are plenty of ball retrievers at STA and other courses on a regular day, they would be removed during an Open Tournament and the Pros won't bother to let their caddies go fishing there. Their objective is different.

Thus, a wet ball and an OOB ball are lost balls to my "professional" avatar, period.

Most real life Professionals don't pay for their own balls; their sponsors do. So is everyone on WGT who reaches Pro tier or higher going to get sponsors, and no longer have to buy their own equipment? I didn't think so!

So, IMO to be fair in this respect, WGT should make some effort in good faith to reduce their greedy ball-snatching.

I might say that I am my avatar's sponsor, but that would lead too far off :)

Of course I have to pay for ball wearing and losses. I've come to think of these costs as a green fee. The amount per sleeve is in my disposition. 10 or 65 credits, casual game, 250 credits, more result-orientated game, 450+ credits, high level scoring game.

After a long time in phase 1, I have now reached phase 2, and I know some of the difference to phase 3.
