Nik and I just played our 2nd round match. He just owned me 3 & 2. When I had a chance to make up some ground, my putter let me down. When I needed to do something big, my irons let me down. Even though I got smoked, it was an enjoyable match with a good dude.
10. Nik’s
opening tee shot found the fairway, while mine found the rough. He stiffed his approach and I hit mine through
the green. My pitch left me outside of Nik’s
ball, but I made my 8-footer to save par.
All for naught, Nik sunk his 5-foot slice putt for birdie and to go 1up.
11.
Nik’s tee ball went through the fairway while I
found the fairway. I hit my approach to
gimme range while Nik’s was just outside gimme range. He sank his 4-footer and my birdie was conceded
for the halve.
12. We
both found the fairway off the tee. My lay
up found the short rough while Nik’s found the fairway. I wedged to 16-feet while Nik’s ball kept
going down the slope and ended 25-feet away.
Both our birdie putts came up short and we halved with pars.
13. Both
our tee shots found the green. From 31
feet up the hill, I left my birdie putt short and right. Nik’s 22-footer was tracking but lost speed
and fell to the low side. Pars were
conceded for the halve.
14. Nik’s
tee shot found the right rough while I striped mine. From 87, I wedged inside 10-feet. From 71 and the rough, Nik hit his to
5-feet. I underread the break and missed
my birdie putt. Somehow, Nik’s birdie
effort lipped out and we halved with pars.
15.
We both found the fairway. From 193, I pulled my approach left into the
bunker. From 186, Nik hit his tight. I knew I had to hole out, but I got too cute
and left it short and in the rough. I
conceded the hole to go 2Dn.
16. Nik
hit his tee shot to 5.1 feet above the hole.
I hit my tee shot off to the right, chipped it up and was conceded par. Nik sank his birdie to win 3&2.
