mnshiner: ... this is the pairing I have been waiting on. The person who gave the first tutorial about Uneven Lies and the other who loves to play them no matter what clubs , ball, course, etc
Well, that is quite flattering, and in my case, hardly warranted. Yes, I've been an advocate for UEL, and willing to undergo the pain and torture in whatever format... but there have been many other enthusiastic and vocal supporters, not least Cerino. Eric (LOLserver) certainly did the community a great service by posting that first comprehensive tutorial, to follow up on the many tips Cerino had already supplied.
Well, Eric may be a master of unevens iron play, but sadly he had an awful day today with the putter, and that nasty super-slow 'Fast' green speed. I lost count of the number of times he left putts 1.5, 3, or even 5-6 feet short. I was begging him to get a big marker and make a huge sign next to his monitor saying FAST speed... but to no avail.
I played a very solid round, even having a couple of lip-outs early on (almost birdied #5), and several other very close putts, but also had my share of a lot of luck, bouncing through the weeds on #15, and draining a couple of long beauties (e.g. a rare birdie on #12, and this one on #17 from 32 ft).
Here are our cards, and my one screenshot... I'm sorry, I was so focussed on trying to save par on the last after getting metered to the right rough short of the bunker, that I forgot to get the greenshot. (I hope you'll forgive that indiscretion, Steve... Eric's putting woes are perhaps proof enough of the green speed!)
I've included all the stats, as I find them fascinating. Someone asked earlier if I'd keep track of it all as I did with TIO2. I'd be happy to, although I can see the next few weeks being busy enough... and it certainly would be very educational to see how this outstanding field was actually making their superb scores of 60 and the like. I always wonder if the sebicu's and fmagnets (and Hans's) of this world are still able to stick it close more often than not with Uneven lies, or is it outstanding putting regardless of how close they are? The stats can be very revealing, but without any special prizes to win as a result (hint, hint, if there are any generous sponsors out there!), and some challenges in getting the shots, perhaps we won't do it for this tourney... ? Or Shiner, do you want to make it a strong request for round 2 onwards?
