I can't help but think this instance may have been non WGT related, possibly phishing related.

If this was a phishing attack, and IMHO it probably was; how was the OP's email address linked to their account on WGT?

That said If WGT's data was hacked and only e-mail addresses exposed, would there not be a plethora of complaints here?

edit:  WGTdbloshoe, said it way better than I at this time of night! (or any time tbh!)

You should never give out any personal information in emails like this

Thanks for the reassurance DB, and as I said earlier I assumed this was the case. Sadly many people are somewhat naive or very gullible. NO reputable company will ever ask for passwords and personal information in an email.

Luckily the OP did get a refund in any case.

But today is my lucky day, not only did I inherit US$1 million from someone I never knew, but have also won $5 million in a Euro lottery. Some days are just too good to be true!

It is possible that the OP already had comprimised his security and there was code sitting on his PC. Then if he opens an offer, the code will add a link, hence being phished to the unoficial site where he enters his email/details etc.

This is where a top of the line virus.security suite is worth its money.

Always look very carefully at where you are being redirected to.

Totally agree, and that's why I use one e-mail address for WGT and a separate one for any offers in the "earn free credits" section so I have a good idea of what is actually from WGT.

Online security is an absolute must these days and to be honest a complete pain in the rear to adhere to, i.e strong and different passwords for every online account, and keeping your main email accounts hidden.

As shoe said, we would never do this. While I do not know exact details, I know that no one in Customer service department has any access to any cc, banking data. That info is proprietary and we have to escalate those (that's why they take longer to resolve).

I know it's easy to blame the first thing you can, especially when it comes to something personal as this.

to OP: If you gave them your credit card info, close cc and have your bank reissue u the cards.

Congrats on this very uncommon combination of events...lol

You can buy WGT now and take it out of the beta stage.

    :)

I use comodo secure dns for this purpose. Does the job for me. At least known scam sites are immediately blocked. That leaves the much smaller chance of being one of the first victims of a new unknown scam site.

Off course it helps if you keep using your common sense and don't click anything suspicious.

LOL Rock, I didn't think of that! Just need the money deposited first - then I probably will spend half of it on phoning MisterWGT in negotiations!

Congrats on the lotto and the inheritance Alanti.

Since I just found out that my Nigerian Prince friend who I never knew was going to transfer $35 million to my US bank account we can buy a nice country club together and only allow our WGT friends to play on it, for free of course.   Wait I just see that I have also been given another $10 million from someone in Hong Kong that I don't know, we can buy WGT and Perfect Parallel and merge them into a great online golf experience.

I got a notice from WGT that their credit card processor had been hacked and that we need to check our credit. The link for the agency that was provided works but the agency is crooked. I got a notice from them that they will be charging me $30 per month for the service. I did not subscribe but they charged me anyway. When I called them to revoke the charges they are very very nasty people and try to get more info out of you. They said they needed to know my bank and my phone number. When I threatened to file criminal charges against them and report them to all my credit card agencies the really got ugly. Finally they did refund my money and cancel the service. I will be watching though, These companies are not trustworthy at all.

SHAME ON WGT FOR GIVING THEM MY INFORMATION!!!!!!!!

Just to clear this up.  At no point have we given out any members information or been hacked or been informed that our credit processor has been hacked.  This sounds like a classic phishing scam to get information from you.  You should never give out any personal information in emails like this.  If you have any questions ever about if the message is legitimate please contact us directly and we can verify if that email was sent from us or not.

Cool, thanks! Whew! I wanted to buy some new clubs and was like "oh no!".
