    Dear WGT

My name is .Ian adams............ and my WGT name is ..Tigertaff0..........

This is my big problem, I have spent a lot of money playing golf on your website and everything has gone well up to one month ago when I managed

to reach level 64 in average, but to my great surprise, I have been standing still at level 64 all the time now, it does not matter if I play good or bad I'm stuck

at level 64 in average , so now the game is not challenging or more fun anymore for me and a waste of money and time spent, I feel I do not want to spend

more money on clubs or balls when it will not help me lower my average.

I ask you to fixed this bug in your computer system so I can continue playing golf  and not waste money and time.

You must fix this ASAP and reimburse me for what I have spent during this time your system failed.

Looking forward for a quick response and action from your side

I took a look into your score history and for your scoring average to go down you need to shoot scores below 32 for 9 holes.  Most of your scores that have been posted are above 32. Because of this you won't see any changes.

Hi Ian, as DB says you need to card score under 64 for 18 holes, or a 31 or better for 9 holes to shift your average, scores above this will not matter as you have reached saturation point.

You have very good equipment, however I would dump your hybrid and get a third wedge. Having three evenly spaced wedges will help immensely.

The other things from your stats are you need to start hitting more greens in regulation, as your srambling rates are poor (24%). So when you miss 40% of the greens (ie 7 missed greens over 18  holes) this leads to 4-5 bogeys as you do not get up and down when you are chasing birdies. So your scrambling/sand saves needs a vast improvement. As your putting is also averaging over two putts per hole this will also need a rapid improvement.

As I said three wedges will help a lot, but you really need to focus on your short game to improve. Hit me up for a game and we can talk through your shots - probably best if it is practice mode as you will get tournament greens otherwise.Plus there is a wealth of great tips and info in the forums, just search for specifics.

As for Ms Fish and John, I would say you sound like an old married couple and you need to kiss and make up, but due to the age disparity, that would be just plain wrong. Perhaps a handshake and a jolly well played old chap will suffice? :))

Me thinks that the WGT average calculation is fine - never noticed any flaw in this part. It may be less than easy though.

OTOH, the statements "must play better than 64" may be unfounded, fortunately.

I took a detailled look into you scoring history, extracting the ranked rounds.

You have about 70 ranked rounds as a Master, and at the end of March you hit the minimum necessary rounds (= 40 for your tier). From then on, only the best 40 scores were in the average calculation, and a change would only happen when a better score would push out a higher score. Plus, the average would only move down. This was quite easy in the beginning, as there are about 30 scores of 39/78 and higher. The task has become harder after that, and you'd only play (strokeplay?) scarcely from mid April on (just a factual statement). From April 12th on, you played 11 rounds, and only 3 of them may have modified the average, a 33 and two 38s.

    Now things become tricky.

From your 40 best rounds with scores of 32/64 to 38/76, the calculated average is 71.85. Thus there are other influences - later. Strictly regarding these numbers, any score better than 38/76 should reduce the average now, like the 33 at KIA on Tuesday. This task becomes harder as you push out more and more of these high scores (e.g. 7x 38/76, 7x 37/74).

But your average isn't 71.85, it is 64.

I identified one (partial?) source for this difference. You have won at least three matches against T..., a fellow Legend from your CC. I know that the average drops considerably for wins against higher tiers, I twice experienced 0.7 as a TM.

This part of the average & tier procedures (including advances due to credit wins) is secluded by WGT, can't tell you any more about it.

My proposal is to look at your average and scores. You'll notice when it moves, hopefully with a 37, too.

Und wenn es Dir leichter fällt, setzen wir diese Unterhaltung auf Deutsch fort.

I beg your pardon, Alan, but one characteristic of a saturated average is that scores above the average may help to reduce it, pushing even higher numbers out.

I'm afraid that practice is the only answer Tiger.

I stand corrected and just had a look at his scores. Yes it would appear why his average is as low as it is can be attributed to the m/p wins against the higher tiers. I made the assumption without looking into the score history and looked mainly at his stats. In his case a 37 should see a reduction in the average.

Having said that, with his current playing skills he may well find himself floundering at TM (even though only the greens get faster) until he can hone on those skills

Okay, you guys are obviously great players. I have been playing for about 6 months and find it difficult to shoot under 33 for 9 holes.

Is it just skill, or is it a combination of skill and equipment or tools. How can one improve scoring (besides a lot of practice) ? Are there special techniques I am not aware of. Any advice would be appreciated. (Of course, my age may hold me down, 72, but I am quite steady, I think)....

Thank you to anyone who chooses to respond.

Both. A skillful player can do well with inferior equipment, a not so skillful player can do halfway decent with good equipment but a skillful player with good equipment is where you want to be.

Nothing any more special than learning and using ALL of the shots at your disposal-punch, pitch, chip, flop and full. This is where the practice comes in-you can't get around that. Judging by your stats I'd say that 33 will drop dramatically if you learn how to get up and down better. Get your Sand and Scramble stats up to 50% or better. Your putting is halfway decent but will get a lot better if you improve on the GIRs.

Play all of the courses. Use the weekly free tournaments to learn them. Join random AS games and play with higher tiers. Ask questions when you do. The more you play the better you'll get and there shall be no playing of the old man card (although you do have 10 years on me.)  ;-)

But if I want to speak to someone of his age I'll phone my grandfather.

Thats a bit left of field & rude. You must be pretty young then to come up with a comment like that.

    tsk tsk
