gr8flbob: In the deeper than 50% stuff use a punched wedge and aim for the nearest fairway you can find and reach - even if it's sideways!.
So many rounds are lost because this isn't done. That aim is crucial. You have to really be careful about what's in your way, especially because of the reduced carry of the punch. Good tip.

I play a lot of alt-shot matches and so - being a touch masochistic - discovered that solo practice rounds where I intentionally drive into trouble are a great learning tool. You have to be creative to escape, with both shot type and creative use of the entire region around the 'Ding' line - that is use of intentional off-ding hits to manufacture pushes and pulls, fades and draws, hooks and slices.
That way, when your esteemed alt-shot pard hands you a steaming turd lie, you can often cover it in whipped cream with a decent recovery shot ... and at least save par.
