TracyMax: however I disagree a hybrid club is a "waste" vs the extra wedge.
I think the reason why most players think the hybrid is a dinosaur is because the wedges you will use a lot more often than you would use the hydrid.
Take your stats (and these can be misleading), you hit 82% of fairways but only hit 67% of GIR. Bearing in mind when everyone scores well it is due to their short game, hence the third wedge will "save you" a lot more shots than equiping a hybrid. I agree with the 3W punch coming out hot, therefore lack of control, so if I have a really poor lie, punch to the fairway say using a 5I, and leave myself a 100 yard wedge to the green, hopefully within 2-3 yards for a par.
The real downside with only 2 wedges is you will often not be able to hit full shots (either punch or full) and as a result yardages are harder to gauge. With three this eliminates a lot of the guesswork (provided they are evenly spaced).
Having said that I do respect your opinion and by having all opinions expressed in the forums, then the players can make an informed choice.
