    Hi all

I'm currently a lvl 45 TP and I'm looking to upgrade my irons and driver soon. This is currently what's in my bag:

    Xhot Cally driver (lvl31).

    Ping v2 rap 2010 3wd (lvl 32).

Ping v2 rap irons 2010 irons (lvl 33).

    Cleve CG16 56,60,64 wedges (lvl 27,29,31).

    Odyssey Versa #1  (lvl 33).

My plan is to upgrade my driver to the TM R1 Tp 9.0 when I get to lvl 48. This is for extra distance and the swing meter on it looks the same as my current Cally.  Then,..when I get to lvl 59 (one day!) I would like to get a set of the ping G20's. The swing meter on these is a little quicker than the irons I'm using now but I think I'm going to need the higher trajectory to get closer to pins and progress further.

My wedges and putter I would like to keep the same until I can get the higher level versions of them.

My questions are aimed at higher level and tiered players than myself and are: Is my logic sound? Are these clubs worth it? Are they worth the credits for the level they are or should I hang on and wait for the higher levels of them? (Taking into account what I have now).

If you could do it all over again and time warp back to my level, what route would you take?

    Thank you for your time.

    Slinx

Hi Slinx, just saw this post and surprised there were no replies (but when I saw the title I thought, not another begging thread lol).

I see you have upgraded the driver - I haven;t used that R1 but have seen others use it and it flies!

As for Irons, yes the G20s are very good and are higher trajectory, so help hold the elevated greens a little - fine from Masters Tees but they struggle from legends approaches. The Bladez are the next step but are a faster meter.

On meter speed, the better clubs have a faster meter, so at some stage you will need to bite the bullet. I went the same route using only slower meter clubs, but eventually if you want to improve, it is required, so do not let the meter speed deter you - you do get used to it (and slow meter balls help!)

Just a thing on levels, at you stage if you play daily (and you can do this by playing 1 hole under the WGT Community - Courses and select a hole), it does not take long to progress through the levels - looking at your join date, you have not played regularly.

The wedges and putter I concur, stick with them as they are fine until later.

As to the last part - I used the starters clubs for a year until I made master - now I would play as much to level up, get the R1, probably the G20s. Then I would play ranked games LOL - oops I laugh but some do this.

Or I would get the R11 set earlier  but the one thing that would not change is, I would still love every minute of it.

^^ That would be my route if I was starting now...you might then make a few credits....enough to pay for your balls till you get to a level high enough to buy another set :)

Get off the M/P and A/S  , and play stroke play .If you arent careful , you will get caught with your pants down . Playing higher tiered players , will advance you quicker than you will want . Too many times , we see players who get booted up to Legend , and then they complain , because they cant compete at that level . So back off from the M/P and A/S , and start playing stroke play practice and ranked rounds . Save your credits , and wait to upgrade if possible . You will be playing from those tees , until you move up to Legend . But if you need to upgrade , then start from bottom to top . Start with your ball first , then work your way up . Also to better plan your upgrade , go play practice rounds from the champion tees , and this will help you plan for the long term upgrade . Hope this helps . Happy Swinging :-)

Well spoken my dear "A" friends!

Nothing to do/buy until level 59, except to play once in 24 hours (midnight GMT is the deadline) to arrive at 88.515 XPs soon - only 30.000 to go!

Just a couple of observations here.  It seems like your plan as well as the advice you have received is very good.  Notice that the meter speed on the wedges that you currently use is only slightly slower than the speed of the Highest level R-11 irons that are available. I have found that if you can handle the meter of the wedges that you currently use, it will probably not bee difficult for you to make a transition to a quicker meter when you upgrade.  also keep in mind that sooner or later you will need to upgrade the ball to either the Callaway or Nike ball.  This became necessary for me when I hit Legend. These balls will also slow the meter for you to some degree.

Have you ever thought of joining a CC ?

Thank you Alanti, Alcaucin, LonnieScott,  Alosso and Seabrook.

I did go ahead and buy the R1 and I did it the day I got bumped up to Master. Luckily at the time I was lvl 48 so the harder tees are manageable for now.

I'm plugging along on my way to lvl 58 and will probably go with the G20's. Although Seabrook made a solid point about me already playing with the faster meter wedges so I could get away with faster irons.  It opens up more options and the higher lvl Blades and R11's are now a distinct possibility. I will rent first and decide when I can.

I should explain my strange scoring history to you Alanti.  I played one round when I first signed up 3 years ago and then nothing until about a month ago. I became hooked only then and have played almost everyday since. I can't remember why I didn't like it back then.

I'm also going to stay away from A/S and M/P and play more ranked rounds. I will also practice more from harder tees in preparation for the future but have decided not to join a CC until I'm a better player. Right now I would like to concentrate on the golf only.

Thanks again for all your help. I really appreciate it.

    Slinx.

LOL I figured that from your score history. When I initially found this game it was only CTTH, played a few times and left. Then a couple of years later I rejoined when the Open was held at St A's.

Good comparison about the wedges, and it is true, if you can handle faster wedges, then faster meter Irons will be ok too.

In meter speed, many players like to have a similar speed across all clubs as possible to get some consistency.

Also great advice re CC, a good CC not only do you make friends, but your fellow members are willing to share tips and information.

I agree with staying clear of M/P but A/S is fun and can be a great way to learn. I am put in positions in A/S that I never knew existed lol (and dare I say it - have done the same to my partners) - so you learn a full array of shots and get green speeds other than the tier you are used to. This is where playing with friends or CC members is really good.

Interesting about the CC's and A/S. Maybe I should re-think that. The trick is finding a CC that's active and actually has players participating I think. I do have a gander now and then and look to see when the members last played round was. A lot are stagnant.

Somewhat glad to hear I'm not the only madman who didn't like this game initially. It might have something to do with how bad I was in the beginning. I also had to learn that this game is more of a simulation of golf and it takes some time to get to play well. It's definitely no arcade game. It also helps that I've found a way to justify the amount of time a fully grown adult spends online, involved in WGT. ( I lie and say that I'm looking up news or stock reports or something!).

The actual truth is that for the last month or so I haven't had a clue about what's going on in the world. Someone will say to me, "Pity about Mandela being sick",...or, "Did you hear about that train in Canada?" and I prattle off some rhetorical semi-appropriate answer. Meanwhile, at the same time, what's actually going on in my head is more like "When I use up my last SD I'm going to go ahead and splash on those Cally 3's or Nike balls!".

The best part Alanti is that I don't really care!

    Thanks again

    Slinx
