Do you have to have the club set-up you wish to use selected before you click tee off? Or do you select it before teeing off?

Yes to both, you setup your bags as you want to for different formats(ie; stroke/match or blitz/ctth) before tee-off. Then pick which set you want to use before tee-off which are numbered 1-4 as you would change equipment before. Clubs can be re-used in the different sets too,or buy clubs/balls to add to them......Joe

Make sure the bag you want is with you as you go to the first tee. After that you are stuck with the clubs you have per the Rules of Golf.  I have a bag set up for tournaments, one for ctth, one for play with strangers, and a bag I switch for various practice sessions. The ctth bag has 5 wedges and a 2 hybrid. If I only had one bag I would constantly be changing clubs and balls to get the combination that I wanted. Lot easier this way.

not necessarily. you can have it set up by course type.
in my case for example I have one setup with 2 drivers  a la phil,
my old R11 and new R1, for those courses with long par 3's,
I find the higher loft of the R11 more suitable for them,
yet I still want the extra distance and forgiveness
of the R1 for the rest of the holes, so I'll use that set
say on merion or oakmont's  front 9.
also for longer courses, I'll go with a setup that has a longer ball,
for "risky" places like Wolf Creek I'll go with the starter ball, etc etc..
