L90 R11 irons question on mapping..

  Usually irons will travel further with no spin than they do with full spin due to the roll out, for example the 210 yard 4 iron full spin (nikes) goes aprox 205 yards, but with no spin it will go 220 yards.  I just use it as a rough guide because on some holes the ball will stop dead with a thud in exact spot whilst other holes when it lands it might bounce forward & roll or spin back

  This is with no wind off fairway. The 3/4 shot is with spin just below swoosh mark. With facing wind add 5 yards. I believe mrenn29 posted these yardage about a year ago. They work for me.

  The no spin seems way short.  These are what i stick to like glue:

  No spin

  3i  = 240

  4i = 220

  5i =  202

  6i = 188

  7i = 172

  8i = 157

  9i = 143

  pw = 125

  But all these shots are hit onto greens, so obviously there's going to be much more of a roll than on a fairway which i feel is much more important because we're not hitting our approaches on fairways which make ball stop much more suddenly

  I could see that and agree with it.

  I know i put the dot a little less than halfway down on the 231 yd par 3 on Kia with a cross wind  and landed at around 232, so i could see if you had the nike balls and put no spin it could travel 240. Not necessarily in the air but with roll, like he says

  We've had this discussion before and you just can't properly map irons factoring in total distance. This is folly due to the myriad of landing places across all of the courses. (Filmslayer has a point.) Learning where your ball will actually land is way more important than trying to figure out how far it will go. That is why a fairway landing is a better gauge of the carry than landing on a green. Flat ground from start to end of carry is also important which is why those first 3 holes on the back of BPB work well-long, flat fairways.

  The chart on your profile page is a beauty. I like to refer people to it because it shows this carry number if you read it correctly. The total distances are just subject to too many outside influences that you have to work them out for yourself. Learn where that rollout starting point is and then figure out what's going to happen.

   

  p.s., Don't forget- the ball makes a huge difference.

  The distances I gave were only carry not roll out. And from the tee they will be longer also.
