Don't get your hopes up, the R11's aren't forgiving either, and the irons are faster than the woods.

    PBaldwin:
Some rounds I can't ding any approach shot and end up with constant 15 foot putts or more for birdie which means I'm left with a bit of work.

    PBaldwin:
I've been using the highest spin Nike balls

    PBaldwin:
I still feel I don't have enough stopping power.

This is exactly what PJC stopped doing as he mentioned above. You're putting way too much emphasis on stopping the ball. Learn to control the ball, not how to stop it on a dime. There are way too many scenarios on the greens across the courses where trying to throw that dart is just going to cause you grief.

G20s with their high, soft landings and a ball with decent spin like the cheaper Callaways is more than enough to score well with, you just have to know how they play. You can throw a dart with them, it's just a soft-tipped dart.  :-)

I hesitate (only for a microsecond) to chime in on a Legends discussion - BUT

YJ is absolutely right here. I cannot buy the R11's (or the vaunted L93/98 R1 for that matter) so I have concentrated on trying to learn how to use my Bladez/wedges - and it seems to be working.

My stats won't show it (yet) but backing off of the spin and using 0 spin seems to be working better for me.

This isn't worth $.01 to most  of you guys - quit jumping around with the high $ balls. Find 1, learn it & love it!

YJ is likely the voice of reason here, but i've always used full- to almost full spin on all approaches .. R11's & Nike lvl 81 .. just works for me .. gotta be very close to ding though, preferably on it

I hope the R11's are a bit better on the forgiveness than these Bladez.

I used to too, but at the time shied away from the heavier wind RG's...now a lot more top spin and punch shots, make for closer bird putts.

Got to agree with MB, sometimes the club thats just short will get you there with topspin and is more accurate than choking back the next club up.

Best in-depth game tip discussion I've seen here in over a year already.  Thank you guys for being so candid so far.

    +1

I am the same as Chris, R11's & Nike lvl 81.  used full to almost full spin on all approaches also (except for wedges of course).  To each his own.
