    JayO92:
An area two to three feet in radius around the hole should be as nearly level as possible and of uniform grade. In no case should holes be located in tricky places, or on sharp slopes where a ball can gather speed. A player above the hole should be able to stop the ball at the hole.

The R+A guide is similar though perhaps gives more scope by saying things like "effort should be made" and "stop the ball near the hole"  rather than "should be" and "stop the ball at the hole".  There is also the point about "if the design of the green dictates".

From Merion alone, I'd like to add to your list holes 3, 6 and 15.  Though I've a suspicion that as close as 2ft most of the greens mentioned are relatively flat.

R&A:  "An area of two to three feet around the hole should be as level as possible. Effort should be made to ensure that holes are not positioned within three paces of a very severe slope or ridge or of a recently used hole. If the design of the green dictates that the hole be positioned on a slope, the hole should be cut vertically, not with the slope. A player putting from above the hole should be able to stop the ball near the hole."

I just noticed that Merion #6 is on the side of a frickin mountain as well.

When are you going to learn to follow USGA guidelines WGT?

Edit: Cabo #1 and #18 as well.  Double facepalm.

The far right pin at RSG #9 is iffy as well. The Merion Michelin Challenge pins on 5, 6 and 15 are downright unfair. You can have a 3 foot putt on 5 and 6 that you need to play a foot or more outside the cup. If you hit behind the hole on 15, you better make your putt or you'll be chipping the next one.

I cant imagine how difficult they are at "Championship" speeds.

For all the courses I would expect WGT pin placements are regularly used during actual play.

No doubt, the USGA Open courses and British open course pin placements are used as part of the pin placement rotation during.

From watching PGA and USGA events it's pretty obvious that pins aren't placed according to the pin placement guidelines that were linked to previously.

Wgt didn't create these pin placements. They just photographed what was there.Pins that were either used for the U.S.Open or British Open. Tru-Golf created the pin placrments fot Cabo and Whistler.

It's not as silly as Bethpage 15. :-)

They did use the front pin position at the second open, and at the Barkley Tourny last year, I was there for both.

WGT doesn't  make the pin placement on any course or hole to account for the fact that those of us who are beginners should get an easy pin placement. So far, all the pins have all been set for a PGA championship, it seems to me.

    Level 17.
