Any one taken the plunge yet?

Less precision than the R11 makes me nervous.  If the very good R11 has a fault it's the precision on long Par 3s.  The extra forgiveness of the new Max may be welcome though combined with the slower meter - maybe.

Interesting although maybe I will hang out for the L95 R11S, not wanting to give up the stopping power I have with the R11.

    Thoughts any one?

Man i don't know Jim. Looks like a hard call. I have the R11s model and is way more forgiving than the regular R11.

This Max thingy is just 1/2 dot less precise but 1/2 dot more forgiveness than R11s. Then.....is has a way slower meter.

Hmmmm........hard call mate. Long way to level up also. Got some thinking to do mate. lol

Im tempted, if only because my R11s 3 wood zooms past the ding line every time. Oddly enough, its the only club in my bag that does this.

Edited for the post below: Yep, the cost is holding me back so far. But im giving some consideration to the new max irons also, which are really costly.

If you can ding (or very close to it) the R11 then the forgiveness is not an issue.

If you can't then the slower meter and extra forgiveness of the Max 3 wood is worth considering.

Cost could be an issue for some people.

Just hit L94 so the R11S is a little way off yet for me.  Thinking about say St Gs long par three and a cross wind is where I have been stuffed before with the R11.  Miss by a hair wrong and GONE.   Extreme case and usually OK as try and miss in to wind if, big, like most I guess.

For me the biggest draw back to the R11 is the precision.  Usually it's fine but will throw the odd wide one in, and sometimes v wide even dinged having really tested in in a zero wind comp.

Maybe the R11S suffers the same dinged?

    Thanks for thought's though.

Before the R-1 came along I was planning on getting the R11s after seeing a few show up in my match plays. Unfortunately I was not at the level. So I purchased the Level 40 R11s 3 wood. That wood is the only one I use on Merion; its that great of a driver. Hardly ever go in the weeds with it's nice amount of forgiveness. The only thing lacking is the fact it's 10 yards short of it's big brother. But that's just fine for me. Can not wait to get the 240 yard one when I level up.

I bought both the new Slider Driver and the Max 3 Wood and could not be happier. After hitting them for awhile, both outperform my G20s. I am pleased that WGT finally remembered us mid level legends finally. Just my 2 cents, but it did feel like Christmas finally to me.

    Hi,

Have tried this new 3W from MAX, and imho no significant difference in precision to R11, tested long par-3 on RSG and on Conga-2. Trajectory like on R11, ball stopping pretty well. Meter seriously very slow, hard to miss much. Played also f18 Par-5, and had an impression distance is better 2-5yd on FW, especially with head winds. Maybe only my impression because i have something new lol. Will stick with it for some time I think.

    Danny.
