    BigInigoMontoya:
Simply amazing round, Corwyn.  You powered through 18 tough holes at Merion with only a single bogey on the card.  If I'm not mistaken you'll also finish the tourney at less than 280 strokes overall.  Amazing job!!!

    Thanks Inigo!

BTW: if anyone's interested, I have added an Inigo-style description of Ben and my rounds to my post a couple of pages back.

Also, the Leaderboard has been updated, along with all the Stats tabs for the 18 finished players. Here are some observations:

Dazza could catch Ben in 3rd place with a 67 or better.

Ben's fantastic 83% GIR at Merion has taken him into joint 2nd in the GIR standings, but James could still overhaul Russ and Ben if he can hit 11 greens or more.

Matt (Geagle1) appears to have done just enough to pip Ian (Legaci) for the Ave. Distance to the Pin award, sneaking ahead by just 2 hundredths of a foot with his 14.1 result at Merion. Matt: did you know how close you were? Were you playing selectively for particular greens? Mati and Kurt can theoretically still catch Geagle by getting 10.6 feet or less...

Micke is best placed to win the Most Birdies prize... while Least Bogies should be won by Dazza if he can produce a solid round.

Currently, Ian (Legaci) is in pole position for the Lowest Total with 50% or less GIR, but any of the remaining players could steal this one too.

And, finally, LJ seems to have pipped hyena for the 'consolation' prize.

(FYI: I know I still need to add Most Improved player standings to the Stats... Should have that up later today)

Lots to play for still... Good luck to the remaining players!

And don't forget those Worst Lie, Best Save, CTTH on #5 awards!

Currently online right now.  Just a stones throw short of 6:00pm on the east coast.  Surprisingly not a single one of my friends is online LoL.  Still crossing my fingers that slayer logs on, and I'll be practicing Merion in the mean time.

filmslayer and I just finished up a little while ago.  I'm fairly cheesed at the way I played, but still somehow managed to card a 79 after a tap in Bird at 11.  Slayer was dropping Birds left and right, but still gave a few back to finish with a nice -- but still somewhat disappointing -- 73.  The difference was in the putting IMHO, as slayer hit less greens than I did, but managed over 3 times the total distance of putts made as me.

Par 4 1st: We draw the front pin here.  I'm 17 feet below the hole, while slayer missed 7 feet long.  My bird missed by mere inches, and I tap in for par.  Slayer drains beautifully for an opening Bird.

Par 5 2nd: We draw the middle right pin.  I'm pin high left from 16 feet, and slayer is just inside 4 feet behind the pin after a great approach.  I two putt for par, while slayer Birds for the second straight hole.

Par 3 3rd: We draw the front pin with a 10mph tailwind, at approximately 10:00pm right to left.  Slayer hits 3i and missed short.  I aim right, miss ding right, and I'm headed for trouble.  I manage to avoid the bunker, but land right in the weeds for my worst lie of the entire tournament.

Not surprisingly, I need 3 strokes to hack my way out of this schmutz and onto the green.  I finally 2 putt for a rage quit triple.  Slayer pitched to 11 feet and 2 putt for bogey.

Par 5 4th: We draw the front pin with a strong headwind off the tee. Just beautiful. I badly miss ding right off the tee, and find the right hand rough.  Slayer missed the fairway short in the rough.  Neither one of us could clear the large bunker with our second shots.  We're both on in 4, and 2 putt for bogey.

Par 4 5th: We draw the front pin, but a strong headwind.  Neither of us can reach in 2.  I miss to the right, slayer to the left.  I gave my 3rd too much power and rolled off left.  I get up and down from there for bogey. Slayer pitched to 6.7 feet and was able to save par.

Par 4 6th: We draw the front pin here but I do not remember the wind. Slayer must have hit a bad drive or underclubbed on his approach, as he missed well short. On in 3 and 2 putt for a bogey.  I reach in 2 13 feet pin high to the right.  I miss the bird by mere inches again, and tap in for par.

Par 4 7th: We draw the back right pin with a left to right crosswind, setting us up perfectly for our approach.  Slayer missed 33 feet long, and I'm 18 feet pin high left.  We both 2 putt for par.

Par 4 8th: We draw the back left pin.  Both on in 2, slayer 15 feet long and me 16 feet pin high to the right.  We both 2 putt for par.

Par 3 9th: We draw the front pin with a left to right crosswind.  I aim well left and miss ding well left, and the wind can't bring her back.  In the rough, fail.  Slayer underclubbed and missed short.  I pitch to 4.5 feet and save par.  Slayer meanwhile decides to just screw the putter and chips in for a Birdie  deuce.  Nice.

Par 4 10th: We draw the front left pin here.  I miss 16 feet below, while slayer is 23 feet long.  I 2 putt for par, but slayer drains beautifully to open the back 9 with a Bird.

Par 4 11th: We draw the front left pin with a 14 mph headwind.  Slayer leaves his 2nd 12 feet short and drains for Bird.  I hit a beautiful 8i from 119 yards out to 2 feet, and I tap in for my first - and only - Bird of the round.  replay.aspx?ID=ee0a87b7 a850 4cf8 ac74 a2570182f7d5

Par 4 12th: We draw the back right pin here, something I rarely got in practice. Slayer finds the rough off the tee, and his 2nd rolls off long. His third rolls off long as well, and he manages to get up and down for bogey.  Meanwhile I'm in the fairway with a nice tailwind, however rather than playing the safe shot to the front of the green, I foolishly attack the pin with a 4i.  It comes up well, well short in the greenside bunker.  I have a perfect lie, but my bunker play is terrible and I can't get any closer than 16 feet.  I 2 putt from there for bogey.

Par 3 13th: We draw the front pin with a left to right cross wind.  We both miss long and left.  Neither can convert the Bird and we 2 putt for par.

Par 4 14th: We draw the middle right pin with a cross wind.  Play your cards right, and the green is reachable.  Slayer ends up well short, but pitched to 14 feet and saved par.  I reach the very front left of the green with my 3h.  I leave my 3rd 4.3 feet long to the right, and inexplicably manage to 3 putt from there for a rage quit double.  Un-****-ing believable.

Par 4 15th: We draw the middle right pin with a cross wind. Slayer finds the rough off the tee, and his second ends up well short.  But he hits the flag from 35 yards out with his third, and sinks a 4 footer for Par.  I hit 4i and run off the green long.  I leave myself with a makable 11 footer uphill for par, but once again the putter fails me and I tap in for bogey.

Par 4 16th: Slayer finds the rough off the tee and is forced to lay up. His third comes up well short, and he 2 putts for a bogey.  I hit a 3h from 170 yards out, and wind up 16 feet pin high left.  I leave the Bird a foot short, and tap in for par.

Par 3 17th: We draw the back left pin with a strong right to left cross tailwind.  I hit choked down driver, fail to clear the ridge, and roll back down to the very front edge of the green a good 57 feet from the pin. Slayer rolled off the back of the green, pitched on and 2 putt for bogey. I hit a great putt up the hill to 4 feet right of the cup, but didn't play enough break and missed the par.  Another 3 putt bogey.

Par 4 18th: 11mph tailwind off the tee!!!!!!!  We draw the front right pin here, which I don't recall ever seeing during my practice rounds.  Slayer left his 3rd well short, and carded his first 3 putt for a double bogey 6.  I dialed in a Pitching wedge from 78 yards out, and managed to hit the flagstick for a near Bird.  replay.aspx?ID=b0b3beb2 b52a 4a1c 96bf a2580002dd2b  Tapped in for a disappointing 79, but still quite happy to break 80, a minor victory in itself LOL.

Thanks for this wonderful description Inigo!

And congratulations to you both on getting through it, and especially to Slayer on a great-sounding round. Such a pity about those last few holes taking their toll. 27 putts (including a 3-putt!) is phenomenal at Merion, and with a distance-made of 90-odd to boot. Very impressive!

Inigo: your total distance made putts for Merion looks like a record low for the tourney, but your GIR and approach stats look excellent (although just one more green might have gotten you into a prize-placing in the GIR standings). Seems you just need to work on the putter... And congrats on getting the closest anyone has come to a birdie on #18!

Above all, congratulations on coming out top of the standings for the Low-Am prize! You are a very deserving winner!

    -------------

Just 5 players left to play their final round: Dazza has been busy with his mother-in-law's funeral, but hopes to be able to play in the next day or so with Mati. No further word yet from Micke or Kurt... and James does not appear to have any activity, so is presumably still travelling. I'm really hoping we can wrap the whole tourney up within a day or two at most...
