Gotta have a 'Waltz' in all good films !!   lol

Makes the obvious dichotomies of each character sing , no ?

Any wudda done Swen..great shouts !!

Andy, I know we don't know each other, but thanks very much! I did not expect anything for just being able to participate in the most enjoyable thread that I think I have yet read in the forums. As I said, I don't read them very often for the reasons I stated, but this was a blast. I also agree with a bunch of Alan's suggestions, To Kill A Mockingbird was awesome and "Blessed are the Cheesemaker's" as well as others - so many to choose from, "Pitcher le vache", etc, etc, etc, You are right, so very hard to ever match the book with a movie, the narrative is the key ... the few that do, or get close, are always going to be classics.

Your top 5, no arguments and I had thought of Breakfast Club too - hard not be up there - but DPS was great and I nearly went back and threw it in the thread, but thought I had stuck my nose in enough.  I spent a thoroughly enjoyable couple of hours just this last Sunday evening watching it again - a lot going on in that for me and yes, so sad.  Apparently, Roger Ebert absolutely panned it and called it a strained effort to deal with unrealistic situations, sophmoric, and adolescent in its attempts to portray the supposed themes and overall story idea, whatever that may have been ... not what I got from it at all. Oh Captain, my Captain ....

Thanks very much again for the balls and I hope that we can come up with more threads like this, but hard to match this one.  I hope that you are enjoying your travels.

Me either but heard the Ebert's critic 'A collection of pious platitudes, masquerading as a courageous stand in favour of....' ( if my memory serves me well )

    ^^  Great post Sw...seems I like intelligent ppl ;-)))

I'll go with the, "great minds think alike", concept as opposed to the alternative version :)))

You are indeed far more correct sir.  I watched Sunday on a channel here called TCM (Turner Classic Movies) and they have a couple of people (Robert Osborne and Ben Mankiewicz) who provide intro's and post-mortem's (at least in the case of Hitchcock movies) about the films, which are usually full of fascinating, albeit trivial at times, information that I did not know previously regarding them.  I was paraphrasing what I could recall from Ben's comments about Ebert's review and I had a few libations that evening.  My apologies for my inaccuracies, but the gist was I believe the same .... Note to self: Be more accurate in future as others do know exactly what is what ... very nicely done as to memory.

    Thanks again,

    Swen

Yup, it can be an eye opener to see anothers 'take' on a film...

Makes ya look on it in a different light  !

Also a bit of a quiz / trivia freak so it all goes into the brain banks ;-)

    All food for thought..

    12 O'Clock High

    African Queen .

    Good Will Hunting

Had a professor for  English  Lit that used the movies to try and teach us how to think out side of  the box. Sometimes it actually worked.  :-))

The Warriors is fun every half decade or so - funny to think of gangs today and how off base this film now is

Omega Man with C H is another one that's alright every few years and the occasional Poseidon Adventure.

I like Hunt for Red October and Carlito's Way a bit more often

My daughter loved Freaky Friday and I must have seen that movie about 200 times - well - we took her off to college last Friday and it just so happens it's on cable this month - and yes - I've been watching it a lot lol

enjoy the update - thanks for a fun thread
