Andy, I know we don't know each other, but thanks very much! I did not expect anything for just being able to participate in the most enjoyable thread that I think I have yet read in the forums. As I said, I don't read them very often for the reasons I stated, but this was a blast. I also agree with a bunch of Alan's suggestions, To Kill A Mockingbird was awesome and "Blessed are the Cheesemaker's" as well as others - so many to choose from, "Pitcher le vache", etc, etc, etc, You are right, so very hard to ever match the book with a movie, the narrative is the key ... the few that do, or get close, are always going to be classics.
Your top 5, no arguments and I had thought of Breakfast Club too - hard not be up there - but DPS was great and I nearly went back and threw it in the thread, but thought I had stuck my nose in enough. I spent a thoroughly enjoyable couple of hours just this last Sunday evening watching it again - a lot going on in that for me and yes, so sad. Apparently, Roger Ebert absolutely panned it and called it a strained effort to deal with unrealistic situations, sophmoric, and adolescent in its attempts to portray the supposed themes and overall story idea, whatever that may have been ... not what I got from it at all. Oh Captain, my Captain ....
Thanks very much again for the balls and I hope that we can come up with more threads like this, but hard to match this one. I hope that you are enjoying your travels.
