Couple rules of thumb for that deep junk:
a. Mission 1: get out of the ca-ca!!
b. Percent rough (depth of ball) roughly equals the distance loss for decent wedges. My Punch ranges are from 50yds (64 deg CG-15) to 84 yds (56 deg CG-15). That lob wedge might get me 25 yds total out of 50-60% fescue/weeds/lite brush. Maybe only 10 or 15 yds from 70-80% junk. For less lofted clubs the fraction of carry (compared to total distance) decreases, so caution is advised getting too greedy. Remember Mission 1!
c. Find the closest spot on safer ground (near-side mild rough or fairway) that you can reasonably get with your equipment and set the aiming point to that spot. For sideways or even backwards shots, if you have to, you may need to use the mini-aim triangle on the hole map. Using a reverse view to set the aim safely is also an option. It is much better to be sideways in the fairway or 30% ruff, than to get 10 or 20 or 40 yds closer to the pin, but still be be in the junk!
b. I set spin so the red dot is just 'nestled into' the top of the rough. Too deep and the club gets deflected under the ball by the rough and ???. Full or Punch shot, and give it all you got.
Good luck!
