L86 R11/Odyssey putter ?

  JFYI if you have the G20 like I did and can't wait to get the R11 don't get too excited...the R11 is longer into a headwind but after purchasing the R11 it isn't any longer than the G20 overall...in fact after comparing them over several rounds at the same courses the G20 shows a longer avg. drive over 9 holes consistently...

   

  I like the R11 because it is the same swing speed as my 3wd and irons, plenty of forgiveness, and more accurate for me. it's a great club...but your not gonna get that extra 5-10 yrds I wanted sooooo bad....

   

  ? has anyone owned both odyssey putters? Is the level 70 really any better than the level 3? putter ...

  I found putting top spin on the G20 it was the other way round - the G20 is longer. Even without topspin into a reasonable headwind with the R11 I found it was markedly shorter than the G20 if the G20 was used with top. Put top spin on the R11 in to a headwind and you may as well be hitting a rock in comparison.

  Again the dead opposite for me.  Not a truck load in it but overall the annoying and flighty R11 club kept it's place because of that.  Along with the Bladez and R11 3 wood it was responsible for visibly helping me with my average score.  Look at it like that it was a huge step up from the G20 for me.

  Can't help there.  L70 works fine but never had the lower level one.

  Bought the level 70 Odyssey, big difference is you don't have those putts that jump off line right off the putter and putts seem to hold the line better...worth the upgrade.

  1st time out with it I had 5 birds and 5 lipouts(2on 1 hole), so I still suck but I'm closer and I have something to b!tch about in a "WGT" sucks thread...

  I found putting top spin on the G20 it was the other way round

  HUH, go figure...I tested them in a no wind and low wind tourney, 3 rounds apiece and the stat sheet showed the G20 longer...but I like the R11 better.

   

  edit...just shot 26 at STA w/ it......

  I use the 70 Odyssey and I'm fully satisfied.  The meter crawls and it has all the versatility of the Method or the Ghost.

   

  The only complaint I've ever heard of it is that it doesn't have a 45 - which I don't consider an issue.

  Agreed...the only thing I was worried about was that the lower level odyssey was such a good putter I didn't think the upgrade could be better, but it really is...the 45 doesn't bother me either...this is the last putter for me 'cause I couldn't get 1 any better...the misses are on me!

  FWIW, I upgraded from the L33 to the L70 Versa. Honestly, I think it was a step backwards. The L70 version is deadly accurate, no doubt about it...but the earlier version, and even the 2 dot forgiveness Rossa, is far more forgiving on slight ding misses. With the L70, a missed ding outside 8 feet basically means a missed putt.

  Now that I've got the L77 Method as well, I think I'll end up using both. I hole more mid/long range putts with the Versa(better accuracy), but I miss lots of short birdie putts with it. Conversely, with the Method(more forgiveness) - I'm deadly inside 12 feet, but hole fewer long putts.

  Each to their own but that would confuse the hell out of me. I do agree that over 7/8 feet the L70 Versa is a ding putter UNLESS you build a miss into the equation which it allows amiably.  

  Like most, away from the cream,  I am markedly better some rounds than others.  Over 10 feet I set the meter to at least 100 feet (talking L70 Versa) if I am going to ding.  The slow meter makes missing that ding hard although I still managed it in my last round, but that's golf:)

  I putt the same way and I still manage to miss the ding about half the time. I either anticipate it and click early, or lose focus for a millisecond and click late lol.

  [Derail] Btw Jim, I've hit the end of the tunnel we talked about. Picked up the Bladez and Clevelands and it'll take a bit more time to get used to the meter, but I definitely see the potential for some low rounds if everything's clicking. Love how they stick to the greens, usually where expected...save for the 1-2 vemed shots(both on BP #16).
