  I can't seem to figure out how to chip around the greens.  Example: If I am using a lob wedge and it tells me I am 22 yds from the pin, it seems like I have to run the power meter almost all the way up.  If I try to run it 50 or 60% so I can drop it on the green and let it run towards the pin, it almost always duffs the shot completely and only goes two or three yds.

  OK u r using low level clubs so don't expect too much.

  However u need to know the basics i) never chip from more than 2 yards off the green.

                                                                  ii) over 11 yards i use a flop or pitch.

                                                                 iii) if u play a 1/2 decent ball, then put full back spin on the chip shot

                                                                iv) A 7 yard chip with full BS will travel 8 yards on a flat green

                                                                v) don't use chip from rough above 30-40%

                                                                vi) use the reverse view and move the aim marker around the hole to see the slopes, and visualise the path of the shot , and it dropping into the hole. Flag in or flag out is up2u, I always keep it in.

  Playing these little shots with full power is always better, if u take off power as low as 50%, then u r asking for trouble.

  The most I ever take off is 20%

  Trying to chip from any rough with the starter wedges is asking for another shot from the rough. With starters I'd pitch the ball or even flop shot if hitting to downhill. I only use chip with starter wedges from the fringe or fairway that's within 2 yards of the green. Even then I'm just hitting and hoping.

  A chip only makes sense if you are right at the edge of the green and can use full or nearly full power. If you don´t know if  chip, flop or pitch will work you can use a full shot with reduced power. This rolls far less and is therefore more likely to actually reach the green.

  A full wedge shot with 30% power still works. But it travels far less then 30% of the distance. Therefore you have to create a table with your club and ball combination that shows you how much power you need for what distance.

  My rule of thumb: Chips must land on fringe or green, add fairway for pitches. If in doubt, use another shot.

  It's very difficult to use the Starter wedges (and clubs) with reduced power. From my memory I fear that less than 70% power will return unpredictable results, especially when missing the ding.

  Thus, short scales are important, punch or flop (an advanced pitch with Starters) come handy. Add some power for the lie %%. And, the primary goal and success is to put it onto the green regardless of the pin distance.

  We all play this game differently but my advice would be only to chip if you are less than a yard from the green, less than 5 yards from the pin and then only on flat greens. Other than that don't.
